Labor Day Racing Celebration this Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway

by Joy Graham

Golden Triangle Raceway Park plans to celebrate the Labor Day holiday with excellent racing action and a fun filled kid event during intermission this Friday.

Highlighting the show will be a Hobby Stock Challenge Race and a Modified Series. After two rainout week-ends, the action is expected to be intense. Pure stocks will be off, but all of the fast lane classes will be competing.

Hobby Stock Challenge Race will be one of the featured fast lane events - Ron Skinner Photo.

As an added attraction, the kids - 12 years old and younger - will be competing in Box Car Races during intermission. This fan participation event has been brought back by popular demand. Kids design, build, and race their own cars made out of cardboard boxes. The power behind these awesome machines are the drivers' own two feet. Two main rules for the Box Car Race are: (1) All kids MUST wear tennis shoes and socks. (2) Each box car MUST have one crew member. The shoes and socks are considered the tires on the vehicle. Midway in the race a pit stop will be made and the crew member must remove and replace the driver’s shoes and socks before the competitor can continue. Like in NASCAR, the pit stop often determines the outcome of the race. If a driver has no pit crew, one will be provided. Lots of fun and prizes.
