TESTING HECTIC AS TEAMS PREPARE FOR SAMSUNG/RADIOSHACK 500 WEEK

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 19, 2003) – Sunny weather at Texas Motor Speedway resulted in a flurry of on-track testing activity Wednesday as nine NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series teams prepared for the March 27-30 Samsung/RadioShack 500 race week.

Former Texas NASCAR Winston Cup winners Terry Labonte and Dale Jarrett were joined on the 1.5-mile superspeedway by the Winston Cup teams of Rusty Wallace, Kevin Harvick, Kerry Earnhardt and David Starr. NASCAR Busch Series teams getting ready for the March 29 O’Reilly 300 included Steadman Marlin, Troy Cline and Lance Norick.

“We are pleased with our session,” said 1999 Texas Winston Cup victor Labonte of his test in the Kellogg’s Chevrolet. “We gathered information that will help us next week.

“The speeds are down some due to the asphalt aging. That is good, it should make for good racing.”

Earnhardt and Cline tested the second-turn outside wall during the session. Earnhardt’s Winston Cup car suffered extensive rear damage in the morning incident. Cline brushed the wall during the afternoon in his Busch machine. Neither driver was injured.

The final day of testing leading into RPM Week-Texas will be staged Thursday with Harvick and Jarrett scheduled. The test sessions are private and are closed to the public.

Tickets for Samsung/RadioShack 500 week events including the March 29 O’Reilly 300 Busch Series race and the March 28-29 U.S. Air Force Showdown for O’Reilly World of Outlaws sprint cars are available at the speedway, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at Ticketmaster locations.
