speed demon 7 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Nick, can the guys from last year attend the shock section, since some of us couldn't come out to Kyle. Quote
NickHolt Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 Yes, sir. You are cordially invited to attend that sesssion. Nick Quote
CC57 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Nick, when you determine the date for the shock session, would you do us a favor and post the date here on Speed Zone? Quote

tqj3 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Nick- I assume the seminars are filling up, though the recent financial problems in the U. S. might have hurt your market. For what it's worth, while Nick and I disagree of some things (though not as many as people seem to think), he knows his stuff about suspensions and short tracks. Set up is so important that if you buy a new motor and the guy who was chasing you last season invests in Nick's seminar and keeps his old motor, he'll probably be in front of you next season. Talk to some of the people who have taken the seminar, many more than once. Chase Stapp and Terry Tschoerner come to mind... Quote
firemdk Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Nick, I know I took it last year but I will take it again this year. It was some of the best information I've ever had and I'm hoping more of it will stick this time. count me in Quote
DEEDDUDE Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Nick, I would also like to attend the shock discussion part of the seminar. Please keep us updated. Quote
Karl E. Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Who is the person speaking at the shock seminar. Quote
speed demon 7 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 It was supposed to be swenson, but he had to cancel last year. Quote
NickHolt Posted December 1, 2008 Author Report Posted December 1, 2008 For those 2008 Houston Seminar attendees who want to drive to Kyle, Robbie Davidson will be presenting the shock portion of the THR seminar tomorrow evening, Tuesday, Dec 2nd, in the THR garage area. The session starts at 7:00 p.m. but Robbie's shock session is set for 8:30 p.m. Of course, you can also wait until the Houston Seminar when the shock session is set for Feb 10. Or do both! Nick Quote
NickHolt Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 January 13th - the first night of the Houston Motorsports Park Suspension Seminar - is right around the corner and will be here before you know it. SO... if you're planning to attend, it's time to get registered. I require a $100 deposit up front because sometimes folks who say they're coming don't show up - for whatever reason. But since I had saved them a slot and since I limit the class size, that meant that someone who wanted to attend didn't get the chance... Also, I do accept "payments" as we go instead of having to pay the whole $300 up front. This worked well at the Kyle seminar which was just completed, so I'm going to give it a try in Houston too. We will have J.C. and David Umscheid as our guest speakers for the "handling portion" of the seminar and Robby Davidson for the "shock portion." Usually we do these two segments on the last night of the seminar. Much of the seminar is designed for teams and cars using a "conventional" setup, but we do share a lot of information about the Big Bar/soft spring setup as well. I'm looking forward to this one. I really enjoyed last year's seminar at HMP. Nick Quote
UMSCHEIDRaceServices Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I think you meant David Umscheid!! Yes we are planning on being there. J.C Quote
NickHolt Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 I think you meant David Umscheid!! Yes we are planning on being there. Sorry, David. Keith Reithmeyer and David Umscheid were the two of the best Austin area drivers in the old TIDA LM days. I'm pretty sure I've called Keith David before too! I apologize to David for my boo boo and have fixed the original post.. Nick Quote
NickHolt Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 With less than a month before the first seminar session at HMP on January 13, only four people have registered so far. Usually I have to turn people away this point. I'm not sure what's different this time, but if you are planning on attending you need to let me know. OH.. I know. You guys are waiting for your significant other to make this seminar your Christmas present! Don't count on it. You're probably getting that same old necktie and a pair of socks... LOL Thanks. Nick Quote
firemdk Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 sorry nick just a hit from the economy right now. I'm going to try but will atleast make the shock portion. Thanks, Quote
NickHolt Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Maybe it's the economy or maybe something else, but - for whatever reason - only five people have registered for the Houston suspension seminar that is set to start in less than two weeks - starts on Tuesday, Jan 13th. Anyone who has ever attended this 5-week seminar will tell you that the knowledge you obtain is worth FAR MORE than the money you will invest. You see guys spend thousands of dollars on "trick of the week" engine stuff and stuff money into the pocket of the tire dealer and still only run mid-pack. Yet a guy with far less engine and a strict tire budget who understands how their suspension works takes home the prize money. I conduct these seminars because it gives makes my day, week and year when I see the lap times of my students steadily get better and better. I don't teach shortcuts. I don't teach crutches. I teach how a suspension really works. I will need 10 more folks eager for this sort of knowledge to register by Tuesday, January 6th or I will have to cancel - which would be the first time (except when I had to cancel a session due to my business requirements). Nick Quote
speed demon 7 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I will say it was definately worth the money. Its not a matter of weather you can afford to do it, but weather you can afford NOT to do it!!! Quote
NickHolt Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 I regret to announce that the Houston Motorsports Park suspension seminar schedule to start next week has been canceled. For those who registered and sent checks, I have not cashed them and will either shred them or return them upon request. Let me know your preference. I did have to cancel a class a couple of years ago because of scheduling issues I had with my job, but this is the first time in almost 30 years that the seminar has been canceled due to a lack of interested students. However, I will be scheduling a Houston area suspension seminar for this fall starting in late October and running through November. I know this information is valuable and I know that those students who actually apply the principles we teach do very well in their respective racing divisions, so I'm not easily discouraged.
