tqj3
Tavo Hellmund of Austin will start fourth for Sunday's United Rentals 150 NASCAR Grand National Division West Series race at Phoenix International Raceway after rain washed out qualifying and officials went to the NASCAR rule book for the starting grid, which sets the field based on owner's points. Hellmund is in an Adair Motorsports Pontiac Grand Prix (#3) with sponsorship from Suzuki Motorcycles and ATVs. His worst West Series finish in his own car was seventh at last year's Phoenix race; his worst ever is 11th in a BMR car. Thirty cars will start today's race, part of the Winter Heat weekend at Phoenix that also features a 100-lap Elite Division race.
tqj3
It was raining again this morning in Phoenix, but the Autozone Elite Division race got under way about an hour ago (1:00pm or so our time) and is now about 60 laps in. tqj3
Hellmund was running in the top ten when he spun on lap 25. Don't know what caused the spin. Caution out again on lap 37 for Eschleman's stalled car, some back pack cars pitted. Race is now (3:45 our time) on about lap 42 of 150.
tqj3
Hellmund dropped to the back of the pack, probably pitted after his spin. Ken Schrader took the lead on lap 43, Austin Cameron took the lead from him on lap 45.
tqj3
Schrader back in the lead, Cameron and Matt Kobyluck in second and third at 75 laps. Caution on lap 80, leaders in for fuel and tires. Cameron takes fuel only, Mike David takes the lead during pit stops.
tqj3
With 25 laps left, Schrader, Cameron, Kobyluck, David, Inglebright. Hellmund still running, but out of the top ten. Only eight cars on lead lap.
tqj3
Cameron took a run at Schrader with four to go, couldn't gain any ground, and then had to hold off Kobyluck for second. Schrader wins NASCAR United Rentals 150 by half a mile, with Cameron second. Will post results (unofficial) ASAP.
