What's Wrong With this VID?

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you. MY problem with this is not the vid, but with the show. Twenty-three sprint cars in a 30 lap feature. That's 690 passes down the front stretch, and no one saw not even ONE driver. These are sprint cars for Pete's sake! The fans are SUPPOSED to be able to SEE the drivers. But HELL NOOOOOOOO! They've put all that shit on 'um now so the drivers are totally hidden from view. IN FACT, I'm not entirely sure they aren't just big RC CARS any more, with no drivers at all, maybe just some cardboard cut-out profiles stuck in there. Its a damn shame! <_<

World of Outlaws, another hide under the wings sprint car series are the ones famous for the four wide parade lap. Not sure if that is traditional for other series. I know what Buddy is trying to point out is that with each succeeding year, drivers of sprint cars are becoming more and more invisible to the fans and its not real hard to sometimes mistake them for winged modifieds. Personally I really enjoy watching the USAC wingless sprints run and the show seems that much more exciting when you get a better view of the driver plying his skills. Yes the left side is lower but the view of the back stretch while in the top row of the front grandstands is not that great. I know the argument is about safety but looking back over the stats over the years the casualties are about equal between the winged and nonwinged cars. Now Indy car racing is really impressive in terms of sheer power and speed but watching the tops of helmets go by isn't all that thrilling. The old Indy racers had a better view of the driver and I kind of believe that class of racing is not near as popular as it was back in those days. There were 83 thousand at Texas Motor Speedway this past June 7th to watch the Indy car race and I would go as far to say that if those were the old Indy cars of the 60s and 70s era that crowd would have topped 150,000.

One thing of importance in this video race Buddy was the fact that there was not one single instance of someone bumping someone out of their way and on the same token, those slower cars moved over when the saw they were outpaced. Clean race. Would love to see something like that at THR just once.

I hear you Buddy.....Take those damn wings off!!!!! And while they are at it they should remove the power steering as well. Put those big steering wheels in them. I bet most of todays drivers wouldnt be as good as they think they are if they had to DRIVE the car. Same thing goes for the STOCK cars. No spoilers, Front air dams.or side skirts. Every car should be able to drive over a 4X4 and not touch it. Just HORSEPOWER and MANPOWER.

Marc

In my earlier post I said to remove the power steering. My question is ....Does it really make a big difference? And removing the wings...Is it harder to drive? Could you educate me more on this? Thanks

It is so huge of a differance with wings. With wings the car is planted down on the track, When we put wings on an outlaw sprint car, I could flat foot, never lift the throttle all the way around Devils Bowl with an all aluminum Shaver 410 engine.

Take the wing off, you have to lift, use the brakes, throttle and steer more just to get around the track.

I have allways said, take the wings off, and we will see who can really drive a sprint car!

Quote from a racer: "With the wings on sprint cars, you can teach a monkey to drive it." Jan Opperman
