txtom
The top was taken at the Pan American Speedway on Toepperwein in San Antonio. It is taken on the front stretch. Us veterans of Pan-Am recognize the front wall, and this pic was taken before they cemented over the grassy area you see. It is hard to distinguish, but if you look a the top of the wall, above the grassy area, there was a road that ran in front of the Grandstands. The cars came down this road on their way to the track for their races. Fans got a close-up of the cars and drivers. The following pics were previously posted by TXSZ member 302cominthru-- The 02 is Leroy Brooks, who was from San Angelo/Winters/Abilene. He would have used #302 in his West Texas days. You can see the similarity of the Pan-Am wall to your pic. The second pic is also of Leroy, and it is taken in the mid 70's, after they cemented the wall. This car belonged to Leroy''s Uncle Bill Ramey, whose son Kevin is a Ft Worth area Sprint Car standout.

That wouldn't be Darrel Godferson would it? And thank you so much for sharing that photo - it's just another small piece to a larger picture we once knew in the history of Soutwest Texas racing.
