rebelracewriter
ASCS Gulf South Battle Shifts to South Texas Speedway on Saturday by Lonnie Wheatley Tulsa, OK (September 17, 2007) - With the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region championship hanging in the balance, the series moves on to South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi this Saturday night for a $2,000 to win event. A mere 82 markers separate the top eight in ASCS Gulf South points as the series makes its lone stop of the year atop the semi-banked, ¼-mile South Texas Speedway clay oval. Skip Wilson of Mesquite, TX, holds a meager six-point lead over Missouri City, TX, racer Brandon Berryman entering Saturday's card, with defending series champion Gary Watson of Beaumont, TX, just two more points back in third. Chris Sweeney of Channelview, TX, is just 34 points off the lead pace in fourth, with three-time series runner-up Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, rounding out the current top five. Tommy Bryant of Montgomery, TX, is sixth, with the balance of the current top ten including 2005 ASCS Gulf South champion Ray Allen Kulhanek (Conroe, TX), Jimmy Brooks (College Station, TX), Johnny Miller (Burleson, TX) and 16-year-old rookie contender Kathryne Minter (Bedford, TX). Only three nights of action remain for the ASCS Gulf South Region following Saturday night's event. Saturday's ASCS Gulf South action at South Texas Speedway fires off at 7:30 p.m. The semi-banked, ¼-mile South Texas Speedway dirt oval is located in Corpus Christi, TX, two miles southwest of SR 358 on Old Brownsville Road. For more information, contact the track at 361-808-7223. After ten rainouts this year, the 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region now consists of 14 events at eight different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Rusty Nut
heard some of the modifed drivers were going to edna...why would they do that Also have heard that several drivers are heading to TRP this weekend. Change of scenery, variety in their racing diet? Could be that payout is $1500 for Mods & Limiteds and $1000 for Bombers. RN
sprintsrule
I just talked to a friend of mine that races in the ASCS. There are going to be some fast cars coming down this weekend. It would be worth that show alone to race at STS this weekend so you could watch it.
