Smith, a native of La Vernia, Texas near San Antonio, will join 5K’s driver development program immediately. The former Texas Super Racing series Rookie–of-the-Year has signed a contract to race in four fall series events. “This is a great team fit, and a terrific opportunity for me to shift my racing career into the next gear,” Smith said. “5K has top notch people, and an abundance of racing success and experience. We will be a winning combination. I can’t wait.” Smith won’t have to wait long. He’ll make his first start this Friday, September 14th in the ASA Late Model Series South event at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Georgia. Smith, who started racing at age 14, has won convincingly at every level he has ever competed - from Hobby Stock to Late Models. He cut his professional racing teeth the last two years in the Texas Super Racing series. The 5K team wasted little time signing Smith after the teenage sensation completed an awe inspiring test session recently at the nationally renowned high banked Slinger Super Speedway, in Slinger, Wisconsin. “To say our Team was impressed with his driving skills would be an understatement,” 5K Motorsports Owner Ken Wills said. Smith credits the hard work and commitment of his local team members, Ervin Breiten and Bobby Black for honing his superior racing skills, but some of his talent has also been inherited.
