Budman
This ought to make some folks on here angry. Do away with the points fund. Increase the WEEKLY PURSES with that money. At the end of the year give away some nice trophys, nominal amounts of cash and maybe a few nice prizes. That's all................. JMO

JMO I agree, most folks are trying to pay the bills weekly and enjoy their hobby. Increase the purses and help the racers get through the season. Aaron, Are you speaking for Mary Ann? I thought track promoters decided money matters like what the purse will be and the amount of the year-end points fund. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you want to donate to the THR points fund and promote it as well. I guess I'm just trying to figure out if this is something Mary Ann asked you to do for her or if this is an independent effort. Nick
abrungot
Nick, JRA, as well as another group are working on projects for Mary Ann. I have 2 projects #1 Drivers Appreciation fund, (Weekly awards) #2 Drivers Point fund, (end of season awards) The final decision is of course up to Mary Ann... But the drivers voices are welcome at THR... and TXSZ is certainly a great place to voice this... and influcence the decision.
STREET02
Just my opinon.... End of season pay top 3 point spots , say $500 , 400, 300 As far as weekly driver awards , possibly a PIT PASS or two . Dº²
abrungot
Drivers appreciation for opening night was a total of 4 pit passes, $25 gift card to Advanced, and 5 gals in race fuel from SS motorsports... These will all be giving out at this weeks drivers meeting.. This weekends awards will be named at that time as well..
Truck99
On the rare occasions that we were paid some points bonus money, we used it to rebuild the car in the winter, and it was very much needed and appreciated. During the season, it's not as hard to "pay the bills" so to speak - tires, fuel, etc. The weekly money helps offset that depending on how well you're finishing. The off season is the "dry period" in terms of racing money - no sponsor income and no weekly income. The bonus money really helped to get us through the winter and get the car back in good shape. For these reasons, I'd like to see some sort of points fund. I think the top 5 is reasonable. As far as what is reasonable - I think that depends on what the track can afford at the end of the year. I certainly wouldn't want the track to go broke paying points money. I'd much rather have a place to race the following year than see the track go under trying to pay points money out. HiTech
MOST POINTS FUND AMOUNTS ARE NOT LARGE ENOUGH AND OR GO BACK FAR ENOUGH TO HELP ANYONE LETS SAY THIRD ON BACK .. I SAY SAVE THE MONEY PUT IT BACK INTO THE SHOW ..ON A WEEK TO WEEK BASES AS ... FREE PIT PASSES FOR A TEAM WHO COULD USE IT .OR CASE OF MOTOR OIL OF THE DRIVERS CHOICE ..GIFT CARD OR CARDS FOR ONE OR MORE TEAMS ON A GIVEN NIGHT. TO BE CHOSEN WITH A RAMDON DRAW ..OR PICK A FINISHING PLACE AND WHO EVER FINISHED THERE RECIEVES IT ..AND IT COULD BE LAST OR A CAR THAT BROKE DOWN BEFORE THE RACE .... THOSE LITTLE THINGS GO ALONG WAY . I WON A FREE MEAL AT KETTLES ONE NIGHT .. FUNNY I LIKE THAT OVER THE PURSE MONEY I WON AND IT WAS MORE THAN THE GIFT CARD .. fast18
Increased weekly purse is very nice for many who don't choose to run for points or are just unable to make races because of other obligations. Having a check at the gate is very handy in offsetting fuel, tires & tow costs. I do like the idea of at least having a points fund for the top 5 as a reward for their commitment. I've run for points before and it does take commitment.
Budman
Now there's a concept Mickey. Opt to get paid in "Track Chits"
Crazyhorse
it takes TONS of commitment to run for points , and those that do should (if can be afforded) be rewarded very well. .....and the more break up in end of the year money paying back through tenth will greatly increase car count. april 28th i could have sworn i heard 50/50 points fund numbers being called? that is a big PLUS.! but then again , at this point i'm just glad to have a place to race. And if we were doing it for the money we would have quit along time ago.

Sarge
This is something I have wondered about for years. Why even have points. Point funds and track championships were created by promoters way back when, in an effort to keep cars from running other tracks. It was a way to "hook" you into showing up at ABC Track, instead of towing over to XYZ track. Particularly in the asphalt world today, there really isn't much danger of the track down the street pouching cars from you. If there is that much time, money, energy, pressure and commitment needed to win it, why do it at all. No points, a lot of the BS stops. No points, you can miss a night of racing and not have a whole season go down the drain. No points, you can go and race each race, instead of riding around in third, cause you don't want to risk losing points. Take the "points fund" money and put it back in the regular purse. But not up top, put it down through the field. At the end of the year give the guy with the most wins (or best finishing average) a big trophy. If there is a tie, then the big trophy goes to the guy that was there the most race nights. Just two cents from the peanut gallery. And not a slam on ya Aaron, your doing a great job. It's a question I have asked myself for years, why points. Budman
Exactly Sarge. I've heard of guys on here who would not dare go race another track on an off week because their afraid of tearing up their car and it would not be ready for the next "Home Track" race night, thus jeopardizing their "points position". So, their car stays home in the trailer instead of helping the count at another track. That hurts racing for everyone. When I mentioned "chits" above, that wasn't a vulgar term, it's a legit one. It's a military term (specifically Navy.) That is (or was) the term for a sort of military internal "funny money." A "track chit" could only be used to buy stuff at the track ........ tires, fuel and the like.
fast18
Budman I didn't think it was vulgar or bad...not coming from you...I wasn't familier with the term .

RodneyRodriguez
it would a huge hit, listen top the fans, they wager all the time for beer (among other things), why the hell not make it real fun???!!
Budman
Well Rodney, that could be a real pandora's box if opened. Actually I'm on here right now to retract my last statement. It was more an editorial on the state of State Government than racing. I don't even want the potential for the outcome of a race ever to be influenced by gambling. You know it happens all the time in other sports ............ and that's just the one's we know about. No, please no gambling at the tracks ........ (other than beer bets ) With regard to State Government, you have to ask yourself why do we have government? Then ask "Well, then what the hell are they doing in the gambling business? If you can justify that, you could justify government being in the prostitution business. I'll get off my soap box now.
