shanler Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Someone told me that videotaping races at the Altus OK track is no longer allowed and the the track does not film the races either. This is in response to a fight that took place last year that was videotaped and led to prosecution of an individual. Does this make any sense to anyone? I can't videotape my son/daughter/husband because someone did something they shouldn't have done, it was caught on tape and they were accordingly prosecuted. Wouldn't videotaping races discourage this type of behavior in the future? Quote
Bull10 Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 You would think that it would discourage that behavior, but I guess it doesn't. My understanding is that the tape is being used as evidence in a lawsuit against the track. My race didn't get taped as it usually does, but that's okay, it wasn't a very good night for me Quote
marc200mph Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 (edited) Video & picture taking is part of taking care of your sponsors. If you cannot prove/show video or pictures of racing/winning, some sponsors would be unhappy. I know several of my sponsors expect to see pics and videos. Look at all the cameras and videos taken at a NASCAR event, imagine the fans in NASCAR not being alowd to take pictures! RIOT! I personal have a website and a few of my sponsors keep files in the corporate office on what I do of videos & pictures! Edited May 3, 2007 by marc200mph Quote
Bull10 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 That's true, my sponsors (me, myself, and I) were somewhat upset that we didn't get to see the truck run Quote

My understanding is that the tape is being used as evidence in a lawsuit against the track. My race didn't get taped as it usually does, but that's okay, it wasn't a very good night for me There is no lawsuit against the track, I should know, it's MY tape! They just made that up to tell everyone so they could have a reason not to allow anyone to videotape. The real reason they don't want anyone to videotape, is that they don't want anyone to have any evidence of what type of behavior is condoned at the track. Fights now are encouraged at the track because there is no proof of what happens and all the locals think this is acceptable entertainment including the track owner. I get assaulted, it is on video, he (David Welch) is convicted of assault, and somehow this makes ME the bad guy. Crazy, huh? Quote
hath27 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 (edited) sounds like someone should knock the track owner over the head w/ a Maglite again. Â (No harm intended, just remembering a historic moment in Madores' tenure as a track owner.) Edited May 7, 2007 by hath27 Quote
Bull10 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Thought that sounded strange. If only you had ducked, this wouldn't be a problem. Just Kidding. Quote
hray Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 I bet if the racers went to Wichita Falls for 2 - 3 weeks, video taping would be allowed again. Quote
marc200mph Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 That won't work hray, the new owners at Wichita Falls agree with the Altus owners and have banned video taping there too! Claiming the lawsuit at Altus the reason! There are some other not so good things going on there to. There are BAD changes/decisions at Wichta Falls, enough that I going to sit out a few weeks and not race there for a while. Quote
Budman Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Doesn't sound like the kind of place/people I'd want to be associated with in any way. I don't pay my good money to see amatuer boxing matches, and would not tolerate it! Quote

I think I'd have to be finding another track, or something else to spend my money on. If there are not enough drivers that agree with you, up there that could band together to effect change then maybe thats not the kind of people you'd want to be spending time w/ anyway. Quote

You're a racer through and through. Something must be going on up there that we don't know about. Care to share? Â Nick Quote

jumbo Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) the folks that bought the track in WF three weeks before the season started don't seem to have a game plan. they told us that they had plenty of funding. they said they were looking to build things up and that they weren't looking to make anything until the fourth year. then this past week they told us that you would have too complete all 20 laps to collect any purse. they also said that the last car running on the track would not get paid. I take back my statement about having no game plan. its just the buy it,change the name, and they will come game plan isn't a very good one. those arn't the things to do when you're trying to get new participants. these are some of the things along with an on track procedure that has Marc as well as myself and some others a little ruffled. marc200mph Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Your right Nick, I would normally race anything with 4 wheels anywhere and anytime. But the new owners in Wichita Falls are making some bad buisness decisions and bad calls at the track that are not only bad for racing but putting people in very dangerous situations. When it comes to risking lives, thats where I draw the line. Saying I am not going to race for a few weeks is probably one of the hardest things I have ever said. I will probably be calling or going to some tracks the next few weeks with helmet in hand. I have already been looking at the rules at HMP & Austin just to see if I might be able to tweek my car to be legal there, without spending to much money. Quote
