track being built in lewisville?

I live in Lewisville, Texas and I have heard nothing of the sorts to a race track being built. Are you confusing this with my wifes gardening work? Once I fire up that tiller. Nothing stops her! Lol!

On a serious note. It is VERY doubtful that a track would be built in this area. It is surounded with alot of newer homes and apartment complexes within a mile or two. In another nearby area. It is Zoned for commercial use with some commercial business already on site. On the other hand. If they built a track in the bowl center of the huge hills of dirt and trash. It would make for a good sound barrier. Not many want to build on a old dump site. In some northern states. They make ski hills out of these sites! Yes, Ski Hills!

Once again. I seriously doubt that a track is going into Lewisville. I will keep my ears open and if I hear anything. I will be sure to let everyone know.

I first heard of this track at the snowball derby last year. Gary Poole and I (Kirby Caldwell) had heard a rumor about a new track in Texas and found out that the Sealy's were involved in it. We aproached them about it and Mr. Sealy was very open about there plans of a 3/8 mile progressive banked track and estimated time of completion. Several investor are involved and they were waitng on all the people to say yes. I also have been told that a friend of mine Jay Carley the director of the Allison Legacy Road Coarse www.texomalegacymotorsports.com knows very well one of the investors and the track is a go.

I followed up with Mr. Sealy at the Houston Speed Fest and he said that they are moving foward but behind projected completion.

I have also dropped a e-mail to Jay Carley to see what he has heard of late.

It will take some time but I think the track will work with lots of legends and bandos in that area to start it off.

Keep it between the walls and I'll see ya'll in Houston this weekend

I need to get back in the loop of this. Last I was told by one of the investors was that they are moving dirt. He is building the structures.

Randy Anderson was given the contact information for the principle in charge to discuss rules for the track to align with the other tracks in the state.

I will do some more digging. This can only be a good thing for Texas racing once its complete.

That image posted by Ace44 has some history. It is the basic site of the old Dallas International Motor Speedway, which had a road course, drag strip, and a motorcycle oval.

Notice the street called Lakepointe. That was the name of the complex for awhile after DIMS went bankrupt in the early 70's. Some of the track layout was there in the 80's, but there is now nothing left.

The real deal.

I just got off the phone with one of the priciple developers of the track. This is not pie in the sky.

The track design has been completed. The track designer is Paxton Waters. In case you don't know who that is, Paxton Waters has designed and built short tracks all over the United States.

The developers still have a few things on the business side to work out before they can officially have a ground breaking.

The location of the track will be east of Texas hwy 121 and East Main St. in Lewisville. They will be extending East Main Street (that dead ends at 121 currently) throught to the sports plex site. 3/8 mile oval, and 1/4 mile drag strip. State of the art.

If all falls into place, they will be ready for a full 2008 season.

Everything is not done, but this a real project that is in motion.

The latest picture is correct to my understanding. The property may be a little farther below the ready mix site, but in that general location.

The good news is that there are no houses. I believe that some of the area is in a flood plane. Unusable for anything else.

Does anyone have any other info on the track being built in lewisville? (are people just talking or are they actually building a track as we speak?, etc.)

I had a nice conversation with the man in Lewisville concerning the track. We exchanged ideas and thoughts and felt it was very helpful to both of us.He is very dedicated and moving forward with the track. He stated there were just a few tweaks left on the architectual design to take it to blueprint. He anticipated some resistance from City Council when it is presented but felt good that it will be approved and he can go forward. We accepted an invitation to the ground breaking ceremony, when it is announced and reciprocated the invite and he accepted. So hopefully it will begin soon and Texas racing will have another racing venue to grow in.The image posted on this thread is not the location of the build site however.

I just found this site yesterday and was overjoyed to find out that someone was building a paved track in this area. I have been whining forever about us not having a short paved track within reasonable driving distance. In fact, I have just recently been researching what it would take to actually build a track myself. Unfortunately since I have no money, research was likely all that would have come of it, but I was going to try.

I grew up in this area and actually went to a paved track in Dallas many many years ago and my dad went to the track at Green Valley ( they ran on Sunday nights, so I wasn't allowed to attend unfortunately). But when I moved to Lubbock I was introduced to pavement racing and much to my surprise, I loved it. I still love dirt too, but I need both to be happy.

I even raced street stock in Lubbock and Amarillo for a couple of years before the dreaded lack of money hit. My interest now is mostly as a fan, but I've got a lot of ideas to share about what I think or thought worked and what didn't or probably won't. I'll probably be posting some of them on here unless I am told not to. While it may have been a nice dream to own and get rich running a successful paved track in this area, the chance of really being able to catch some good racing here is even better.

Cool - when it rains they can have ski-doo races!!!

Seriously - I'm new to Texas - but anything that can strengthen local racing is a good thing....I'm glad it's still possible to have tracks built.

And looking at that picture it almost looks like there used to be a track or something there in the upper right corner
