Apr 14 2007 --- Big Night at Five Flags - Complete Results

Hunter Robbins was awarded the victory in the opening Blizzard Series Super Late Model 100-lap feature Friday night at Five Flags Speedway when winner Augie Grill was disqualified in postrace inspection.

Grill took the checkered flag, leading the final 80 laps and never pitting for fresh tires.

But his car did not pass inspection after the race.

Robbins, 15, of Montgomery, Ala., also never pitted, but he never really challenged Grill during the race.

Defending series champion Dave Mader III pitted on Lap 36 and worked his way to the front, but never could close in on the final two drivers. He was credited with the second-place finish while Ryan Crane was third and Ken McFarland fourth. Pensacola drivers Wayne Niedecken Jr. finished sixth, while Donald Long was eighth.

A field of 37 cars -- one shy of a normal Snowball Derby starting lineup -- started the race and 22 finished on the lead lap. There were seven cautions for 44 laps.

About the only drama near the end of the race was the lapped cars that Grill had to weave past over the final five laps.

It was some lapped cars that took out some possible contenders earlier in the race. Billy Tutchtone was being passed by several of the leaders when he got into Steven Davis, who started the race as the fastest qualifier. Davis hit the wall and finished 33rd.

At the halfway point of the race, the lapped car of Eddie Craig was getting pushed around as the leaders passed him and he drifted into the right side of Scott Carlson, doing heavy sheet metal damage to Carlson's car. Carlson was able to make up the two laps he lost and finished 17th.

Crane suffered slight damage in the first wreck on Lap 5, pitted and then worked his way to third.

Davis, after earning the pole for the Tracy Goodson-owned car with a time of 16.980 seconds, led the first 14 laps until McFarland took the point for the next five laps. Grill made the pass for the lead on Lap 20 and was never really challenged again.

The top two drivers in points after the five Blizzard races will earn provisional spots in December's Snowball Derby. The second Blizzard race will be May 25.
