NickHolt Posted March 4, 2007 Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 Colt James wins the ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier Award at SAS San Antonio, Texas (03/03/2007): The ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts Fifth Anniversary 2007 season has officially begun. The first event of the 2007 season; The 2nd annual Quality Pre Owned Cars and Trucks Alamo 200 Presented by Express Lube and FLF Racecars is on going as ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying is now complete and the Feature line-up is all set! The crown jewel of the ASALMS, the Challenge Division has kicked off the 2007 season with the first of 11 Points races, 12 overall in the series “Where Champions Race” at the fast 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of the San Antonio (TX) Speedway in San Antonio, Texas. The 200-lap Feature is paying a larger than normal $10,000 to win and $1,000 just to start. Joining the ASALMS Challenge Division Cars and Stars in what is also the 2007 season opener for the San Antonio Speedway are two of the Regular Weekly Divisions of Sportsmen and Road Runners along with the Traveling Texas Pro Sedans Series, who all will be running in their respective 2007 season openers as well. With 34 cars officially entered and after losing three during the Friday Practice Sessions, both ASALMS Co-Founder/President, Ron Varney and San Antonio Speedway C.E.O/Promoter, Terry Dickerson have elected to start all of the remaining 31 on cars on hand for tonight’s 200-lap Feature. The GM Performance Parts Shootout has been cancelled for this event. As for ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, Buda, Texas native, Colt James made the home state fans very happy as the 23-year-old Lone Star State driver won his first career ASALMS Challenge Division Fast Qualifier Award with an 18.480. James’ lap measures out to 97.403 MPH. James, who finished seventh in the final 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Points Standings won his second career ASALMS Fast Qualifier Award as he did win one last season in the ASALM Southern Division competition. The Overall ASALMS Track Record at the San Antonio, Texas speed plant will stand and was set back on October 21, 2006 as Landon Cassill turned a lap measured at an 18.469. Travis Dassow timed in second for his new T.D. Racing Development Team (The former Waltom Racing) as he turned in an 18.528 while Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title contender, Derek Thorn was third at an 18.593. His 5K Motorsports teammate, Kris Stump was fourth fastest with an 18.609 while Michael Annett rounded out the Top Five with an 18.649. Two more contenders for the Pat Bourdow Memorial Freshman title, Andy Hanson (18.763) and Sean Murphy (18.783) were sixth and seventh while veterans Eddie Hoffman (18.791) and Peter Cozzolino (18.793) were eighth and ninth. 16-year-old Texas teenager, Kyle Sirizzotti (18.806) completed the Top 10. After ARP Bodied/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, James then drew a nine for an inversion, which will put veterans Peter Cozzolino and Eddie Hoffman on the front row of the stout 31-car field for tonight’s 200-lap Feature. The ASALMS Challenge Division Cars and Stars will have their autograph session at 6:00pm and then after the National Anthem, the SAS Weekly divisions of Sportsman and Road Runners as well as the Texas Pro Sedans Series Features will begin tonight’s racing program with their respective features at 7:00pm. Then it’ll be time for the Alamo 200 Pre Race Ceremonies and Driver Introductions. The 2nd annual Quality Pre Owned Cars and Trucks Alamo 200 Presented by Express Lube and FLF Racecars will get the green flag at approximately 8:30pm.
