NASCAR withheld the yellow until after the two leaders crossed the finish line even though numerous cars were spinning wildly down the front straight - one on his roof and in flames! All the replays clearly show that.

So, why did NASCAR withhold the yellow?

After the race NASCAR spokesperson Ramsey Poston said. "When the 07 went sideways on the track, the yellow came out. At that point the 29 was ahead of the 01 and declared the winner.''

Very good, except that it's simply not true. The yellow did not come out when the 07 car got sideways. It was a good five seconds after that when the yellow finally flew. There were cars in the wall, sideways, upside down, banging each other like ping pong balls well before NASCAR called for the yellow.

Methinks Martin got screwed.

im a big martin fan, im upset about the call but look at this

Kyle Busch, spun in turn 3-4, righted his car and ran to the finish only to be knocked back 8 positions because Nascar "used the last scoring loop to determine the finishing position". The loop that Martin was leading at.

Now Im not a Busch fan at all but that doesnt seem right to let some cars race back to the flag but not all.

Check out the new "revised" finishing order,(there has been 3 since the race ended) Matt Kenseth 12 spots back from where he crossed the line at.

And Nascar starts the season with the "follow the rules or else" attitude but yet they cant make consistent calls themselves.

And NO there has not been a race in the last 3 years in Cup that have had a run back to the checkard. They instituted that rule several years ago. For times like this when someone like DJ who is running around in the back stopps to avoid being in the accident. He doesnt get penalized for that and gets the spot back where he was at the last scoring loop. Thats safe and fair. That was what was intended with these rules right? If for 5 years or more the drivers are expecting a yellow for anything that looks half bad and now Nascar thinks that its OK to race back to the line. Good God, what would Robby Gordon of done if he knew that was going to be the situation. Clint wouldnt of been the only one on his roof.

Way to go NASCAR :huh:

The yellow should have came out .. who ever was the leader that was at the point that they decided other cars were at . should be the winner .they should have thrown the yellow when kyle spun .not when 07 flip.ed or dont throw it at all when the race was decided at the line .. it came down to not wanting to decide the winner on the last scoring loop ..something smell.s.... i pulled for martin .that does not matter who was the leader just do it fare .

But all the controversy has stirred ticket sales at TMS. Check out the following release from TMS

===========================

News item: The controversial finish in Sunday’s Daytona 500 has piqued the interest of racing fans 1,172 miles away from Daytona International Speedway. Since Sunday’s season-opening race won by Kevin Harvick, Texas Motor Speedway has witnessed a significant increase in ticket sales from a year ago for its Samsung 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race weekend scheduled for April 12-15. Texas Motor Speedway recorded an increase of 20 percent Sunday and 38 percent Monday over last year’s sales during the same two-day period. “Controversy, mixed with some drama and the freshness of a new season, charged up Texas Motor Speedway fans the past two days and we hope the trend continues,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “Heck, I’ll take controversy for the next five or so weeks if ticket sales can remain like this.” Tickets, including some prime seating on the frontstretch, remain available for the Samsung 500 race weekend that will feature the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and Busch Series. For tickets, call the TMS ticket office at (817) 215-8500 or go online to texasmotorspeedway.com.
