Smith prepares for "Patriot 200" Fairgrounds Speedway, Nashville, TN "testing" his new car

Kyle, Texas - 18-year-old Casey Smith attended the "open practice" at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Thursday, August 28, 2003. Out of the hauler rolled Smith's 2003 Hamke Super Late Model he will field for the Patriot 200 event at the Fairground Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee slated for October 18, 2003.

For years, the All American 400 late model race held at Nashville Speedway matched the stars from the North versus the stars from the South. It was among the biggest, most anticipated, short track stock car races in the country. The Patriot 200 concept will be revived in 2003 when ASA matches the Indiana based Sunoco Super Series and Alabama headquartered Southern All-Star Series in a 200-lap race on the eve of the ASA Racing Series season finale at the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville.

"When ASA announced (early in the season) they were hosting this event we started building this car," says Smith. "The Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville has always been my "most favorite" track, this race and the famed Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Florida are two super late model events you have to be very well prepared for, because the "best of the best" short track racers from all over the country gather at both events challenging hard for the win and the "bragging rights."

Smith took four separate twenty-five lap runs in his new "hot rod" and was all smiles when the team loaded it back in the hauler. "We will take her back to the shop, review our notes and "test" it again at the Fairgrounds in Nashville along with the ASA car in a couple of weeks."

The next race for Smith will be the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) event September 6th at Houston Speedway in Houston, Texas piloting the Bobby Joe New #3 late model. This will be Smith's second start in the TSRS series.

Casey's next ASA race will be September 20th at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, IN which will be televised live on SPEED.
