NickHolt
Vinton, Iowa (January 18, 2007) – The IMCA Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMod division will crown its first national rookie of the year in 2007. Drivers with no more than four career starts in the class from 2004-2006 will be eligible to sign up for contingency awards; that form will be published in the point section of the IMCA newsletter and posted on the IMCA website. Rookie of the year contingencies and the program sponsor will be announced when details are finalized. Application deadline is Aug. 1. “When this division was started, everybody was a rookie. The number of new Southern SportMod drivers has grown to the point where the rookie of the year should be recognized,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “Drivers won’t be able to go from our Modified or Stock Car classes and run for Southern SportMod rookie of the year, but they can go from the Hobby Stocks or any non sanctioned class.” As is the case in IMCA’s Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions, rookie of the year standings in the Southern SportMods will be based on a driver’s best 30 feature finishes in their first 50 points races.
