Snowball Event

So how many racers qualify on time - how many provisionals?, who has provisionals? and how do you make the race if you do not qualify on time? How many will they start? How many from Texas have ever qualified for this race in the past and how did they do? Seems like a "who's who" of SLM's and would be hard to earn even a starting spot.

Total of 38 start each race.

Snowball Derby Qualifying (Lock-in Fastest 30)

Snowflake qualifying(lock in fastest 30)

6 spots for each race from two last chance races per race(total of 4 races)

2 provisionals based on Blizzard series for Snowball and Five Flags Pro latemodels for Snowflake.

The current SuperLatemodels that are gauranteed a provisional based on 1-2 finishes in the Blizzard points are Dave Mader 111 and Jr. Niedecken. If those two qualify, then it will go on down the points list.

Many Texas drivers have attempted the Derby and ran in the Derby. Casey Smith and Chris Davidson have had top 5 finishes. Greg Davidson has competed many times as well with a best finish of 14th. Bobby and Terry Labonte have best finishes of 36th and 35th. Freddy Fryar from Texas has two wins coming in 79' and 81'. J.D Hughes ran in 6 Snowballs with a best finish of 15th. Bubba Naumann 3 starts with best finish of 15th. Larry Schild 2 starts with best finish of 22nd. T. Wade Welch 3 starts with best finish of 14th. Slick Yeomans 1 start with a 24th place finish.

I think that is all of them.

Thanks Snowball - Very interesting stats and you have done a great job on promoting this event - I think the USRA Series should take notes - maybe that is why Florida has a great car count (the race and racers are being promoted) Right on the front page of TEXAS speedzone there is a picture of David Stremme? So what about Chris and Casey who I just read out of all the Texas Drivers (with the exception of Freddie Fryar) have the best finishes- Top-five finishes in this prestige event, but a Texas racing website chooses to promote the fact that David Stremme is running the Snowflake - how about all the other Texas Drivers going down there to run? I just think USRA needs to promote their drivers

That is a bunch of them, and I want to add a few more:

Hubert Bean, San Antonio, 1 start, finished 32

Chet Fillip, San Angelo, 1 start, finished 12

John Foster, Odessa, 1 start, finished 18

Tommy Grimes, San Antonio, 3 starts, best finish 19

Terry Mason JR (originally from San Antonio) 4 starts, best finish 15

Ricky Otts, Houston, 1 start, finished 28

John Rezek, Alvin, 1 start, finished 34

Might be a couple more whose names escape me at the moment

racedude,

First off, for most of the past season TXSZ has been accused of being the USRA site. Did my heart good to see you complaining that TXSZ doesn't do enough to promote USRA and it's drivers.

Secondly, TXSZ posts virtually everything sent to us by race teams. Any of the Texas drivers going to the Snowball or Snowflake (which are NOT USRA sanctioned events) could send us well-written press releases about their plans, success, etc. and they would certainly be posted.

Thirdly, the USRA sends dozens of press releases throughout the racing season (as well as several before and after the season) to more than 100 racing news outlets throughout the US.

In addition, the TV crews from all SA outlets including one of the Hispanic stations, visited SAS this past season. They just don't show up, it takes lots of work - hard work - to get that sort of response.

But, I think you are on the right track in recognizing how important consistent pr and media efforts are in promoting racing.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Nick! Believe it or not, I am just a volunteer who LOVES latemodel racing. I appreciate that yall let me post on your board. I have met many people from your way from posting on this board, and as you can probably tell, your site is one of my top visited sites! I would have to say that it is probably the best board on the net, no butt kissing intended! :)
