racedude
So what are the picks on "Who will win" Snowball & Snowflake?
Pacecar
That's one of the most difficult picks to make. The race track is so abrasive that lap times will fall off 2 seconds when the tires give up. For some cars, the tires will give up totally after 30 laps... other cars might have a setup that allows the tires to live for up to 65 laps. Survival, car setup, pit stops and pit strategy, coupled with the timing of the yellow flags, determine who's in the lead pack for the final run at the checkers. Lots of driving skills are important for this race. First, the driver must be very aggressive (without spinning the tires exiting turn 4 and down the whole straight) and have a good qualifying setup just to make the race. If you don't make the race, you don't have a chance to win it. Once you've made the race, then the driver needs to be easy on the throttle and nurse his tires during the accumulation of laps (without going more than a lap down). A smooth driving style is very important during this phase of the race. Pit stops and strategy are super important, and determine who is able to unlap themselves (no lucky dog here!). For the final laps, the driver has to drive aggressively (and trade paint) without burning up the tires. The driver and team that wins it, deserves it. It's worth the trip to Pensacola.
