NickHolt
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 10, 2006 Contact: Christine Parks 956.605.2808 Rio Grande Speedway last points race November 18th, but the fun is not near over. McALLEN, TX (11.10.06) – The “regular” racing season may be over at Rio Grande Speedway, but there’s 50-grand that says a lot of race fans (and quite a few drivers) will be at the South Texas track the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 2. That’s the weekend the ¼-mile dirt track will host the 16th Annual Rio Grande Speedway Modified and Limited Modified Nationals. More than 100 drivers from as many as 15 different states will be vying for the over-$50,000 total purse that is up for grabs. Drivers such as NASCAR legend Richard Petty and NEXTEL Cup driver Carl Edwards have run on the ¼ mile dirt track. A large crowd is expected for this year’s Nationals; attendance at last year’s topped the 3,000 mark. “Many of NASCAR’s ‘young guns’ have gotten their start racing dirt tracks,” track official Mike Braaten stated. “There is a strong possibility that a future star could come from right here.” Track championships will be determined that night in most of the track’s classes. However, 21-year-old Mission native Adam Schach has already clinched the Modifieds and Limited Modifieds. Schach is no stranger to winning championships; he was the 2005 Rio Grande Speedway Modified Points Champion and finished second in the Limiteds standings. Schach, who has been racing Modifieds since he was 16, is sponsored by Lone Star Doors, Matt Brown Auto Body, and Young’s Automotive. He also gives special thanks to his Mom and Dad, Adam Arrambula, his father Conrad Arrambula, and Randy Young. Jim Heatherly has just about wrapped up the points in the Hobby Stock class. Phil Pray, Sr. has a healthy lead in the Street Stocks class. Cody Gordon (14) of McAllen just needs to start the Thunder Class feature to beat out Patrick Braaten and Jaime Islas for the title. Islas and Braaten are separated by only three points in the battle for second place. Only 37 points separates the entire Open Karts class. Austin Braaten takes a slim two-point lead over Kevin Schach into the finale. Kasey Schach, Kevin’s twin brother, is leading the field in the Stock Karts class. Seven-year-old rookies Sean Braaten and Rochelle Lopez have a chance to finish as high as fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Stock Karts class. Rio Grande Speedway is located 3.9 miles south of Expressway 83 on 10th Street in McAllen
