Smith walks away with Rookie of the Year award - again

KYLE (10/29/06)- The season didn’t end the way the Smith Family Racing Team wanted but their driver, Cody Smith, still walked away from the last Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) race of the season with the Rookie of the Year award.

Smith was leading last night’s TSRS feature race at the 10th annual Texas Stock Car Spectacular at Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) in Kyle (TX). A late-race mishap caused damage to Smith’s car, forcing him to pit and ending the 17-year-old La Vernia resident’s chances at the TSRS crown.

Unofficially, Smith finished second in the TSRS points chase to Tommy Gural (Elgin). The official points standings will be released later this week.

Cody and the Smith Family Racing team will still celebrate winning the Rookie of the Year award for the series. Smith has won that award two straight years – in 2005, when he won the THR Hobby Stock Class championship, and this year.

Cody Smith and Smith Family Racing are sponsored by RTM Construction Company, LTD., Dodson Demolition, Oval Components (San Antonio), Long’s Racing Engines, Salazar Racing and Fossil Fuel Motorsports.

The Smith Family Racing team’s web site – www.codysmithracing.com - is currently under construction by Race Day Creations.
