NickHolt
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 22, 2006 Contact: K-MAC Sports, 512.557.7393 Colt James Racing has twin seconds and twice the controversy in ASA twin 75 races San Antonio, Texas (10/22/06) – Colt James and his Colt James Racing team has mixed emotions about having two second place finishes in the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Championship AT&T Twin 75’s presented by Mercedes Home at San Antonio Speedway (SAS). At the start of the first 75 lap feature Colt took the lead from the outside of the front row front ASA favorite and pole sitter Landon Cassill. Colt lead from that point up until lap 62. As the lead duo exited turn two, Cassell made contact to the left rear of James’ number 15 machine. While the contact was not hard enough to spin James out, it was clearly hard enough to break James momentum and allow Cassill to pass and take the victory. James, unhappy with the contact, conceded the victory and vowed not to lose the second race and understood the need to be more aggressive in defending his track position. The field for the second 75 lap race inverted the lead lap cars from the first race. James started on the outside of row three in sixth spot. James steadily moved up through the top five in the first part of the second race. James moved by perennial SAS favorite Brandon Bendele on lap 51. Contact between Bendele and James allowed Cassill to move to second place and the race was on just as in the first race. On the last lap Cassill made the same move as in the first race by making contact to the left rear of the 15 car. The contact made James’ car sideways on the exit out of turn two. James made a defensive block on Cassill and the two black cars slammed door panels on the back stretch. The most controversial move of the night came as the two cars traveled into turn three. Cassill clearly may his car very wide and went from his low line to the high line, taking James almost into the wall in turn three. With the contact all of James’ momentum was lost and Cassill passed for the lead and took the win. After the checkers James was very upset and needed to be restrained from confronting Cassill. The crowd also showed their displeasure in Cassill pass for the win. With the ASA Southern Division Championship season completed, James and the race team are still evaluating their plans for the 2007 season.
