NickHolt
For Immediate Release – October 25, 2006 Contact: Nick Holt, USRA Media Director (210) 690-8564 (office) (210) 415-1251 (cell) cnholt@sbcglobal.net All Three USRA Racing Divisions Set for 10th Annual Stock Car Spectacular San Antonio, TX (October 25, 2006) - All three United States Racing Association (USRA) touring series – the USRA Super Late Model Series (SLM), the USRA Modified Series and the USRA Truck Series – will be in action this Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the 10th Annual Texas Stock Car Spectacular at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas. The Stock Car Spectacular is one of the very few events each year where all the top pavement touring series in Texas get together for one huge event. This year’s edition - in addition to the three headlined USRA series - will feature the Texas Super Racing Series Late Models, the Texas Pro Sedan Series four-cylinder stock cars, the Lone Star Allison Legacy Series, the crowd-pleasing A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks and the fender-banging THR Hobby Stocks in time trials and feature events, while the Texas Dwarf Car Association, the THR Grand Stocks and the NASKART Racing Karts will support the show with heat races and main events. Veteran USRA SLM driver Chris Davidson and rookie driver Matt Merrell have been locked in a season-long battle for the USRA Super Late Model championship. Going into Saturday’s 125-lap race at the three-eighth mile, D-shaped, paved oval, Davidson, who won the USRA SLM event at Texas World Speedway in June, holds a slim 18-point lead over Merrell the winner at Thunder Hill Raceway in July and San Antonio Speedway in August. The high-dollar USRA Super Late Models are the fastest pavement stock cars competing on short tracks in the Southwest and feature state-of-the-art racing technology. Any one of five USRA Modified Series drivers stands a chance of leaving Thunder Hill with a championship trophy after their 50-lap feature event. Points leader Billy Becka has a 22-point lead over defending USRA Modified champion Bruce Beddoe, a 36-point advantage over steady Bob Slezinsky and a 39-point bulge over rookie Trey Mitchell and veteran Mark Chrudimsky who are tied for fourth in the standings. All but Slezinsky have won USRA Modified feature races this season. The lightning-quick, low-slung modifieds always put on a great show at the tight Thunder Hill speed plant. USRA Truck Series points leader Steve Green – a three-time winner this season – enjoys a 33-point lead over Craig Roper and a 34-point advantage over rookie Jody Buzbee in the USRA Truck Series standings. The always exciting USRA ARTS trucks will go door-to-door in a scheduled 50-lap event. The THR grandstands will open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and qualifying will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m. while the opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 for children, ages 6-12. Via phone calls we had 21 modified drivers say they're planning on running at Thunder Hill. Looking forward to all the nights events!
