kn1ghtblade
Does anyone have a GM Car 99 or newer with that stupid built in anti-theft security function in it, that either knows how to reset it or just totally disable that damn thing???? I have a 1999 Olds Alero with it and it constantly trips and I have to wait like 20 mins for the thing to reset automatically to start the car and that is just totally totally anoying, so if anyone is a GM Tech at a dealer or atleast knows how this system works and can tell me anything to help please please help me.... kn1ghtblade
LoL had a dodge neon, a computer in the fuel tank went out in it, 1500$ replacement... Needless to say the car was turned in as a lemon.... I couldnt drive it below half a tank of gas and it would think it was on empty and shut off to keep the pump from overheating... POS car I must say, looked nice but it was a POS!!!!
1-Crew
The GM anti-theft is a simple fixed resistance built in to the key. If the key or the contact in the switch housing are dirty, expect intermittant operation. You can probably read the resistance at the key with a DVM then wire in a replacement from radio shack, effectively bypassing the factory anti-theft. Â BTW, the owners manual for my wife's '99 Buick says to turn the key on without starting the car and depress the accelerator pedal three times to the floor and back. The change oil light will flash indicating it is reset. There was no mention of this procedure in the manual for my Mom's '99 Alero but it works just like it does on the Buick.. the low tire reset is in the fuse panel on the passenger side of the dashboard.. kn1ghtblade
Yeah the reset button for the low tire also resets the oil change light my boss told me about that his duaghter has an alero, but her's didnt have the anti-theft... Â I think I may have found out how to reset the thing by accident, since earlier today when it tripped I put the key to on, put car in nuetral and then back to park and the light went out and was able to start the car... I am not sure if this will work all the time I am hopeing it does though, it will save me a ton of headaches... Â As for the key deal, we have not had an original key since we bought the car used, it came with copies, but how do you clean the ignistion switch on the inside???? Rookie49
On many latemodel cars if the factory anti-theft goes off you can reset them by putting the key in the door, locking it by key and then unlocking it w/ the key. This confirms to the computer that the key starting the car is the right key. Just a thought.

kn1ghtblade
THE GRAND AMS HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS LIKE THAT IT WAS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) WE WOULD RE PROGRAM THE ONES THAT COULD BE OR REPLACE THEM... Thats what I have been told on this one... The alero is basicaly a grand-am with a few visual differences.... I just dont want to have to buy a body module if I dont have too, I would rather put that money into my race car....
