AT&T’s Scott Matkin hits the high banks at San Antonio Speedway

San Antonio, TX (October 19, 2006) – Scott Matkin, Director of Regulatory Compliance at AT&T, spent his normal day at the office today – and then he traded in his shirt and tie for a driver’s suit and helmet.

As part of the sponsorship agreement between AT&T and San Antonio Speedway, Matkin accepted the challenge to drive around the half-mile, high-banked, asphalt oval track in the San Antonio Speedway racecar sponsored by AT&T. Matkin logged in a few quick laps during a practice session this evening at the speedway.

It didn’t take long for Matkin to get a feel for the track. “At first it felt strange and a bit intimidating, but after a few laps I started to feel more comfortable in the car,” commented Matkin.

AT&T is sponsoring one of the biggest racing events of the year at San Antonio Speedway this Saturday night. The AT&T Twin 75 ASA All-Star Shootout presented by Mercedes Homes will feature drivers from several states in the southern part of the nation, along with a few of the local Late Model drivers. At the end of the night, the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division will crown its 2006 champion.

Matkin will return to the speedway on Saturday night to show off his newly-acquired racing skills to all of the fans in the grandstands. “I’m ready to get back out on the track and try it again – and maybe I’ll be just a bit faster next time,” laughed Matkin.

San Antonio Speedway (SAS) fans are invited to join in this new partnership by wearing caps with the SAS and AT&T logos. The first 200 fans that enter the grandstand gates on Saturday night will get a free cap by visiting with AT&T representatives at the AT&T tent located near the entrance to the grandstands.

Terry Dickerson, San Antonio Speedway’s CEO, is excited about AT&T’s interest in stock car racing in San Antonio. “We’re really happy that AT&T has partnered with us to bring the fans some great racing action,” said Dickerson. “And with all of the growth in this area, AT&T will have the opportunity to talk with folks who live nearby and work at the new Toyota facility. We hope AT&T will join us again next year when we kick off our 2007 season in March.”

Saturday night’s action will also include the Texas State Sportsman Championship race, which will be a 50-lap competition by some of the top Sportsman and Street Stock drivers from racetracks throughout the state of Texas.

The grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m., and fans will be given the opportunity to meet the ASA LMS drivers during an autograph session that begins at 6:05 p.m. The racing action gets started promptly at 7:30 p.m.

San Antonio Speedway is located at 14901 State Highway 16 South (towards Poteet), 3.5 miles outside Loop 410. Admission is $25 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and military and spouse (with ID) and $5 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are admitted free.
