Ramey Motors to ASCS Gulf South Victory Lane at Motorama

Lonnie Wheatley, BEAUMONT, Tex. (September 29, 2006) Kevin Ramey battled past Brad Best on the 14th round en route to victory lane in Friday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region feature at Motorama Speedway.

Ramey's third ASCS Gulf South triumph of the year aboard the Tom Willis' Wells-powered Commercial Music/Urban Nissan No. 7m Eagle ran his Gulf South career win total to 13, tops in series history.

While Ramey started the feature from the front row outside, it was polesitter Best gunning into the early lead after the initial start was waved off for Brandon Corn's wild tumble.

After several early cautions, Best set the pace on the low side as Ramey rode the cushion. Ramey ducked to the low side exiting turn four on the 14th lap to take command for keeps.

While Ramey set the pace, Skip Wilson battled past Best for the runner-up position on the 18th lap. Three laps later, the red flag flew when current series point leader Gary Watson was unable to avoid Brandon Berryman's spinning machine and went for a wild ride. There were no injuries.

Wilson made quick work of several lapped cars on the ensuing restart but was still unable to mount a serious challenge on Ramey for the win. Wilson settled for second, with Best taking the show position. Scottie McDonald crossed the stripe fourth, while Sam Hafertepe, Jr., raced from 15th to round out the top five.

Ray Allen Kulhanek crossed the stripe sixth, with Berryman, Greg Rilat, Tommy Bryant and Jamie Will completing the top ten.

Wilson, Watson, Best and McDonald topped heat race action for the 32-car field, with Hafertepe winning the "B" Main.
