bad experience at the GN race

i really dont think of myself as a complainer but it's 9:00 and i'm already back from date night with my wife at the GN race after being escorted out by a security guard. we got to the track and proceeded to the pit entrances to check in with our pit passes. the woman at the pit gate told us that we needed tickets to get in. "i just want to go into the pits that's why i have pit passes" i'm sorry you have to buy tickets to get into the pits with the pit passes you already bought. round and round and calling so and so and finally while the race was 10 minutes to start the woman says cool come on in. awesome, the pit passes that say pit passes really worked as pit passes. we were passed into the pits. we walked around all the nice shiny trailers and i showed my wife what the king of all tool boxes looked like so come christmas she knew what they looked like and found a seat on the bleachers in the pits, which we had passes for. they were still doing driver introductions and looked like there was at least 15 more minutes of pomp and circumstance so we went to buy some water. no water in the pits. asked the security guard at the fence between the pits and the general admission if we could go buy some water even though all we had was pit passes.sure no problem he said. you have a blue armband. and we can get back into the pits?yep , he says. we truck on over to the water stand and are paying for some water when the lady from the pit gate swoops down on us." we were jus buying some water theres no water in the pits honest look 2 waters its a long race we were heading back to the pits i swear we did'nt even get a number 8 thingy from the bud girls jus 2 waters............." sir the pits are now closed you are going to have to leave the premesis. she then proceeded to walk off and was replaced by a security guard who told us with authority that were were to vacate the premesis immediately. I could hear the call that the race was about to get underway and my mouth was on the ground. i asked the woman that is booting us for some clarification and she told me what i had were "cold" passes. shortly after we went to get water the pits became hot and required "hot" passes that we did'nt have so we were no longer welcome in the now hot pits, and seeing as how we did'nt have general admission tickets because we bought pit passes that were cold we were'nt welcome in the general admission either....confused as hell i walked back over to my wife and told her that was the end of the road. walked out of the track and into the truck and thats all she wrote. good times

Let me get this right. They can sell you a pit pass that is only good before the race. Then you either had to buy a NASCAR license and another pit pass or buy a general admission which was about $40 for one race.No wonder there were a lot of empty seats. And no concessions in the pits! So if the folks with pit passes only did the same thing were they in violation or does the NASCAR license grant you full access?

trent willmon was great...(only caught 3 or 4 songs but still great). my only wish would be to put the music on the front straight away if any way possible.

the race , was a race.............not the best but not the worst.

but definately hats off to everyone that made it happen , i will go to the next one.

sorry jay, that had to suck...............it's always the good guys that get the [edited out by Nick Holt, 10/8/06] end of the stick.

I kinda thought the pit passes were cheap...there's always a catch. Sorry to hear about the mix up Jay. Paid parking and 10.00 to get back in even with a ticket stub...guess they needed every little bit to help pay their expenses. All in all my date and I had a good time ! :)

On the tube the race looked great. In THR tradition, there was no runaway. The wrecks were timed(cough, cough)perfectly. The side by side restarts made it a race.It was a standup finish, due to a slow car, classic.I hope they keep coming back.I hope the tv coverage didn't hurt the attendance, and if so I hope the track owners got a piece of that pie.I wonder how many people actually have HDNET.Maybe they should let the THR folks run the gates with our Texas hospitality,so as to avoid the above mentioned.

i was'nt looking for any special favors. i just thought my pit passes were just that. the people that held my fate in their hands were very polite and professional and it was no use getting cross with them because it was'nt their fault. i think the folks bringing this to thunderhill are doing a killer job and i hope it returns. i love racing and iappreciate the effort that goes into an event like this. that being said, i think i'm done with these big spectacular yee-haa circus type events. i got pit passes so i could be in the pits with the race cars. i love the energy there and that's the experience i was hoping to share with my wife. i came out of there confused and disillusioned. at the local weekly programs warts and all, my pit pass was a pit pass, general admission was just that, and i never ordered a corn dog and had to upgrade to the meat....................................xxxooodirty

NAPA.............. they pulled the wool over on quite a few people i'm hearing of now.

NAPA did'nt say buy a cold (3 hour) pit pass at NAPA , they said get your pit pass at NAPA.

i'm more of an O'reilly's guy.

Speaking of NAPA...

They called me last week and told me I'm one of 13 finalists to possibly win a custom motorcycle built by Orange County Choppers (The dysfunctional Family from Discovery Channel's "American Chopper")

The giveaway is October 14 @ the State Fair in Dallas...

This was all ran by nascar nothing to do with THR ,sorry about the confusion it was well worth the money to watch the race .Everyone had to have a generall admission ticket to get in the gate then you could get your pit pass at the Nascar booth. Even staff had to have a ticket to get in.

For the record, Napa was required to put a sticker stating that it was a cold pass. We realized they had not during the event. This for the future has been corrected.

But if we had ever thought that anyone would have thought that you got 3 concerts, a NASCAR Grand National race, full pit access and a seat.......... for less than what you pay for a general admission seat and less than half of what a pit pass at a local show costs...we certainly would have stated that. This is surprising but our mistake for not stating the obvious! Our apologies to the few that this may have confused.

first of all i want to thank you and the people that you work with for bringing this to thunderhill. i can't imagine the work that goes into it and you all have done a fine job. now to clarify, i never once expected the full range of events for my pit pass. i am not nascar savvy in the ways of pit passes hot and cold and there was nothing printed on my passes that implied that they would only be good with a general admission ticket.you stated that there was an oversight on napa's part so i don't think that i was out of line with my assumption. i had asked napa about the pit passes 3 weeks before the show and was told they knew nothing about them. the day before the race napa called and said they had recieved pit passes from their warehouse and that they were steeply discounted because of the race being the next day. i had no interest in the general festivities and so the idea of watching the race from the pits, requiring a pit pass, seemed like the best idea. it all seems like beating a dead horse at this point, and maybe i'm to blame for not being schooled in nascar event procedure, but i 'm still a little sore about my 15 minute nascar event walk through.
