debwill
For Immediate Release Contact: Debbie Williams San Antonio Speedway Vice President & Asst. Gen. Mgr. (210) 648-7373 (office); (210) 685-0400 (cell) debwill@sanantoniospeedway.com NASCAR Late Model Twin 25s return to San Antonio Speedway San Antonio, TX (August 29, 2006) – After a couple of quiet weekends, San Antonio Speedway will reopen its gates for some special NASCAR Late Model races on Saturday, September 9. Although the original schedule for this event reflected a “Twin 50” format for the top-of-the-line Late Models, the track has decided to change to a Twin 25” format instead. “We introduced the Twin 25 format a few weeks ago for our Late Model class, and it seemed to be the best format for both the drivers and fans,” said Rick Day, San Antonio Speedway President and General Manger. “Each event included some great racing action, and two different drivers were able to claim victories that night.” The points’ battle for the NASCAR Late Models is heating up, especially for the two drivers who are competing for the lead – current points’ leader Joe Aramendia and defending NASCAR Late Model champion Robert Barker. Aramendia holds a slim 38-point lead over Barker, with just three more points’ races left in the 2006 racing season. The purse (driver payouts) for this race will be posted on the San Antonio Speedway website later this week. It will be similar to the payouts that were awarded for the Twin 25s on August 12. The grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will drop at 7:00 p.m. The full racing program will also feature the highly-competitive San Antonio Speedway Sportsman division, the fast and furious Road Runner class and the always-entertaining Grand Stocks. San Antonio Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned short-track in the state of Texas. It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility. Admission for the September 9 race is $10 for adults, $8 for Senior/Military with ID, $3 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are free. Discount coupons for kids’ free admission are available at all 13 Express Lube locations.
