NeilTPS
Donnie Moore wins his 7th TPS Race at SAS By: Neil Upchurch, Texas Pro Sedans – Race & Administrative Director San Antonio, Texas (August 19, 2006) Donnie Moore of Hutto, Texas started 4th but finished 1st in the Texas Pro Sedans 25 lap race at San Antonio Speedway. The TPS series contested their 9th race of the 2006 season at the half mile high banked asphalt oval in support of a major USRA race event which was moved from Corpus Christi and featured all three of the USRA touring series classes. Qualifying saw the fastest time trial lap turned in by Donnie Moore in the #70 George Merrell VW Scirocco. He posted a time of 22.210 seconds. His time was three tenths of a second short of the TPS/SAS track record of 21.910 seconds which was set by Bryce Dishman’s Ford Mustang-svo on March 11, 2006. An inversion draw moved Moore’s car to 4th position on the race starting grid. The Texas Pro Sedans played to a large grandstand of San Antonio Speedway spectators. The event was highlighted by a 27 TPS entry list. The largest field of the night saw 16 TPS cars sign in and 14 take the green flag for their 25 lap TPS Feature Race. Two cars didn’t make the race due to blown engines in the #07 Mike O’Connor Pontiac Sunfire and #78 VW Sedan driven by Adam McCosh. The current TPS Point leader and former TPS Champion Donnie Moore, made his move on lap #2 to pass the pole sitting #15 VW Rabbit driven by 2005 TPS “Rookie of the Year”, Tom Johnson of Kingsland, Texas. The 2005 TPS Champion, Sergio Hexsel dropped out of the race on lap 6 with an apparent engine problem. In the caution flag report, a total of two solo yellow flags were displayed for minor spins by JJ Osburn in his #23 Ford Pinto and John Miesen’s #55 VW Sedan. A total of three Texas Pro Sedan drivers completed the race on the lead lap. Also recording 25 laps were the #4 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Joshua Tuttle. He is the leading driver in TPS “Rookie of the Year” points. He placed 2nd, 2.10 seconds behind Moore. He was followed closely by John Wasek of Austin who had another good finish with an impressive 3rd place driving his #74 VW Scirocco. The TPS Championship Points standings continues to list Donnie Moore with a 57 point increasing lead over Sergio Hexsel. There are three races remaining in the 2006 TPS race schedule. The next TPS race will see the four cylinder stock car series return to Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle for two Qualifying Heat races and a twenty lap TPS Feature Race on Saturday night, September 2. Hartracn19
Donnie - Congrats on another great win. Congrats to all the TPS drivers for another great clean race!! The SAS track can really do some wicked things to our cars if the drivers get stupid. Great to see see the only caustions were from solo spins. That is why I love racing with this group!! 07 - I planned to come by to see the new ride, but you headed out early. Heard you had engine issues. I hope not terminal. NickHolt
congs donnie nice win so what happened to all the fords for this race Yes, Donnie drove a smart, fast race. It was good to see a Chevy do so well and wind up in second. To answer your question, if you look at the results posted above, you will see that: Lalo Leal did not race. Jack Dishman did not race. Bryce Dishman did not race. Jessie Sandoval did not race. Ariel Arredondo did not race. Seems to me like a bunch of the front-running Fords sat this one out.
