Sirizzotti looks forward to return to Houston

A lot of racers like to – as they say – “return home.”

For Kyle Sirizzotti and the G.T. Sirizzotti Race Team, this Saturday (Aug. 19) marks their return to the team’s first-ever race in the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) for the Bayou Classic.

That series debut came at Houston Motorsports Park (HMP) on March 18, 2006 when the 15-year-old Kyle Sirizzotti drove home with a seventh-place finish. Not bad for a debut in the TSRS Late Models, but…

“Oh no,” said the younger Sirizzotti, who won the Lonestar Legacys championship in 2005. “I expected to do a lot better than seventh place. I wasn’t nervous about making the jump to a new series; our team came in and expected to win the race.”

“Our start in Houston was a good learning experience. We knew there were some great drivers in this series and we found that out first-hand. We also felt we could compete and learned that we could, with some adjustments,” stated team owner Tony Sirizzotti.

Sirizzotti has gone on from that first race to grab one win (June 24 at Thunder Hill Raceway), two poles (May 27 at THR and Aug. 6 at the road course – and a track record – at Texas World Speedway) and five top-10s out of six series races. In fact, Sirizzotti even had the second-fastest qualifying time at HMP back on March 18.

Obviously, the team is focused on grabbing the checkered flag this Saturday night.

“We carry a lot of momentum into this race after grabbing the pole – and setting a track record – at Texas World Speedway a couple of weeks ago,” the younger Sirizzotti declared. “We know that Chris Schild pretty much owns this track, and we know he and points leader Tommy Gural will be out to make a statement this Saturday. But I’m sure we’ll be right there when all is said and done.”

The G.T. Sirizzotti Race Team is also looking forward to running at one of Texas’ premier race facilities. “It’s a pleasure to make the trip to Houston because the Bakers (HMP owners Graham and David) have such a great facility,” Tony Sirizzotti revealed. “Just like THR, the staff at HMP runs a first-class operation. The track is a lot of fun to run; we look forward to racing there twice more this season.”

The Sirizzotti Race Team also welcomed a new sponsor, Pesado Construction Company (Schertz, TX), into their racing family. “We’re happy to have Pesado Construction Company on board,” Tony Sirizzotti said. “Bill Hunter, owner of Pesado Construction, approached us a couple of races ago and said they were impressed with Kyle, his driving and the way he handles himself. Racing doesn’t happen without sponsorship; we welcome Pesado Construction Company to our team with open arms.”
