Gural Still Top Dog In Texas Super Racing Series

By: Pat Mayberry

Tommy Gural survived a tough weekend at Texas World Speedway (TWS) when he

had major engine problems and had to make a last minute change to his

back-up power plant. Despite the problems, Gural still has a slim lead over

the hot young rookie, Cody Smith. Smith, who won the Mid Summer-Shootout at

TWS, passed Chris Schild to take over the 2nd spot in the standing and is

now only thirty three (33) points behind Gural as the teams all head for

Houston Motorsports Park and the Bayou Classic.

With only four race dates left in the season it is crunch time for teams and

drivers. Trailing Gural and Smith is Schild who is forty nine points back

and headed to a track he has dominated recently winning four times over the

past two years and collecting four pole awards as well. With two of the

four races left being held on the beautiful high banks of Houston

Motorsports Park, Schild is poised to make a late run to defend his

championship. Behind Schild is rookie Kyle Sirizzotti, who trails Gural by

seventy-two (72) and rounding out the top five is Teresa Gural, who is one

hundred fifty three (153) behind her husband.
