Thunder Hill Raceway and Houston Motorsports Park combine for big night of racing this Saturday

Thunder Hill Raceway (THR), which hasn’t raced since July 22, will join forces with Houston Motorsports Park (HMP) to present a full schedule of racing this Saturday (Aug. 12) at THR, a 3/8-mile asphalt oval located in Kyle, TX.

HMP, owned by Graham and David Baker, will bring three classes of cars – the Pro Modifieds, the Sportsman Late Models and the Pro Super Late Models – to THR, which will run its three local classes that same night. Those classes are the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks, the THR Hobby Stocks and the THR Grand Stocks.

Those six classes will be joined on the track by Lone Star Legacy series, one of the fastest-growing developmental series in Texas.

This will be the second-to-last night of the 2006 regular season for Thunder Hill classes, so the action on the track will be as hot as the temperature in Texas!

The great Father-Son battle for the season championship continues in the Hobby Stock class as Gary Chancellor Senior trails his son – Gary Chancellor, Jr. – by 61 points (753-692) going into Saturday night’s action. Joey Tschoerner sits third in the points with 646.

The chase for Rookie of the Year in the Hobby Stocks is another drawing card for the class. Sitting fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the points are (respectively) Rick Latimer (606 total points), Aaron Brungot (547), Steve Joyce (543) and Steve Osborne (418).

Defending champ Cary Stapp continues to be the favorite to repeat in the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks class, as he carries a 65-point lead (783-708) into Saturday’s feature race over Doug Ayers. David Webster (662), Dale Caswell (607) and Todd Weeks (536) round out the top-5.

Bryon Reed takes a 100-point lead over James Lynch, Jr. (778-678) in the THR Grand Stock class into the feature race on Saturday. Mike Farish (616), Travis O’Brien (598) and Marcia Moore (537) round out the top-5 in the Grand Stocks overall points standings.

The JRA Kids Club will host the intermission at THR; information on the club can be found at www.JRAKidsClub.com.

Admission for this Saturday’s racing action is just $18 for adults, $7 for children ages 6-12; kids under 6 years old get in free. There is a $2 discount for senior citizens, police and military personnel.

Announcements and information about Thunder Hill Raceway can be found at the track’s web site, www.thunderhillraceway.com or by calling the track’s hot line at 512.262.1352. Thunder Hill Raceway is located at Exit #210 off IH-35 North in Kyle (TX).
