NASCAR Late Model Race Rescheduled

San Antonio, TX (July 27, 2006) – The San Antonio Speedway NASCAR Late Model drivers will be given an opportunity to add another race to their calendars after last week’s rainout at San Antonio Speedway. Twin 25 races will be run for the NASCAR Late Models on Saturday, August 12.

The NASCAR Late Models are the feature division in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division II competition that includes race tracks from all over the country. Drivers in this division are eligible to win cash awards from NASCAR by using their best 16 race scores during the 2006 season. Adding one more race will help these drivers meet the minimum race requirements for this year’s NDWS competition.

“Even though it has been really dry in the San Antonio area this summer, we’ve had several rainouts at the speedway this year, said Rick Day, San Antonio Speedway President and General Manager. “For some reason, those rare thunderstorms seem to pay us a visit on Saturday nights. We hope this added race will give our Late Model drivers a fair shake in the national and regional NASCAR competitions.”

The NASCAR Late Models will be scheduled to run two 25-lap races on August 12. The winner of each race will be awarded $500, and each of the race entries will get $100 just to start the race. Late Model drivers from all over the South Texas area are invited to join the local drivers in this fast and exciting class at San Antonio Speedway.

“Our rules package makes it easy for any Late Model driver to race with our NASCAR Late Model class at San Antonio Speedway,” added Day. “In addition to a one-time purchase of a NASCAR license, most of these drivers just need to change to a 10” American Racer tire to join this class on any Saturday night. And now we’ve changed our tire policy to make it easier for our drivers to use ‘takeoffs’ from other drivers. If anyone wants to know more about the Late Model rules, they can just give me a call at 210-827-4524”

With the rule changes that were recently made for the USRA Super Late Model Series (USRA SLM), many of these same Late Model drivers can race with that series (USRA SLM), by just making a couple of minimal changes, such as the tires and the carburetor. The USRA Super Late Models are scheduled to run the Texas Two-Step Nationals-Part II on Saturday, August 5, at San Antonio Speedway.

A Demolition Derby is also scheduled on Saturday, August 12, and the winner will receive $1,000. An additional $100 will be awarded to the “Fan Favorite” Demo Derby Car, which may not necessarily be the best-looking car. The entry fee for this derby is $50, and cash prizes will also be awarded to the 2nd ($250), 3rd ($150) and 4th ($100) place finishers.

Several options are currently being explored for makeup races in the NASCAR Sportsman, Road Runner and Grand Stock classes at San Antonio Speedway, with potential big races for each of the remaining classes.

The NASCAR Late Models will also be racing in their 40-lap feature event this Saturday night, July 29, at San Antonio Speedway, starting at 7:00 p.m. Other racing action will include the USRA Modifieds and Trucks, along with the NASCAR Sportsman, Road Runner and Grand Stock classes.

Admission for this Saturday night’s race is $15 for adults, $8 for Senior/Military with ID and $3 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are free.

San Antonio Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned short-track in the state of Texas. It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility.
