And Mark Martin made an appearance at the speedway. Kind of. The Dodge Country I. M. C. A. Modifieds put on a twenty lap, flag to flag, feature lap. The Budweiser Racing Texas Twisters had a record car count, and can say “Hail to the King!” The Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Jr Mini Stocks were the first feature of the night. Only three of the youngsters were on hand to contest ten laps. It was Joseph CharnockGot the early lead and held it though out the race, even though Colten Monroe was charging. With the white flag waving, Colten had moved into a position to snatch the win away from Charnock, but he would spin out in a puddle of liquid escaping from his engine bay, and Charnock won his fifth race of the year. Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Jr Mini Stocks 1.22 Joseph Chamock 2.712 Colton Monroe 3.14 Clayton Harzog The Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Street Stocks were up next. Twenty-one of them signed in, but only nineteen survived the heat races to contest fifteen laps of feature racing. Scott Wilson got the early lead, followed by Corey Stepan, Chris Ochoa, Ryan Anderson, and “Dashing” Dave Meadows. Meadows would get into fourth by passing Anderson in turn three. With one lap in the books, defending track champion, Robert Simmerman got around Anderson to move up to fifth. Anderson's lap got worse, as he and Jeff Medlock got tangled up on the back stretch bringing out the caution flag. The top five coming to green were Wilson, Stepan, Meadows, Ochoa, Meadows, and Simmerman. Points leader Albert Wininger Jr was lurking in sixth. On the restart both Meadows and Simmerman would sweep around Ochoa to move up to third and fourth. On lap three, Meadows would be side by side with Stepan in the race for third. The raced door handle to door handle from the front stretch to turn four, where Meadows would get a great run and passed not only Stepan, but got around Wilson as well for the lead. Stepan followed Meadows around Wilson for second. The lead wouldn't last long, however, as Meadow's engine expired in a huge cloud of smoke in turn one on lap five, bringing out the second yellow flag of the race. With the attrition up front, the top five for the lap five restart were Stepan, Wilson, Simmerman, Wininger Jr, and Ochoa. Simmerman leaped around Wison as the green flag waved. But the green flag would be out long, as there was a huge tangle in turn two. Involved were Carl Boettcher, Trevor Sparkman, Anderson, Don Watson, and Tim Fasano. All five were able to continue, but would restart at the back of the pack. With no positions changed among the top five, green again waved. Simmerman would again get around Wilson in turn one, this time dragging Wininger Jr with him as well. Wilson would continue to fall back, as Ochoa got around him in turn two. On lap seven, Wininger Jr slowed way up in turn two, and eventually would come to a stop in turn three, bringing out the third caution. The single file restart top five were Steppan still hanging on to the lead, followed by Simmerman, Ochoa, Wilson and Danny “Git-r” Dunn in fifth. Ochoa would try to pass Simmerman going into turn one, but wouldn't get the spot. On lap ten, Dunn was under attack by Tommy Kirkpatrick. They raced side by side down the front stretch all the way to turn two, but Kirkpatrick would stay in sixth. The final laps continued to be exiting, as Simmerman went for the lead on lap twelve. They were door handle to door handle down the front stretch and raced hard into turn one. Turn two proved to be Simmerman's, as he took the top spot coming out of the corner. On lap thirteen, Stepan would again be under attack, with Ochoa trying his hand in turn one. Stepan managed turn two better and retained the runner up spot. Meanwhile, Kirkpatrick was getting around Dunn for fifth. Simmerman had to hold off a determined and charging Stepan, as they were only separated by a bumper at the line. Simmerman's fifth win of the year came from the sixth starting posistion. M. C. A. Southern SportMods for their fifteen lap feature race. It didn't take long for it to get exiting, as it was three wide for the lead as the green flag waved. It was Shannon Dulock racing strong to get the lead, followed by Shad Stevens, Hardy Henderson and Robert Carr were wheel to wheel for third, with Henderson taking that spot. Billy White rounded out the top five. On lap one, David Goode would spin in turn three, but was able to keep it going and no caution was needed. On lap three, Carr and White were side by side in turn one for fourth. They raced that way all the way to turn three where Carr was able to hold on to fourth. On lap five, Kenny Ware was under White in turn two. Ware would get around White in turn four to get into the top five. The action at the head of the field was hot and heavy on lap seven as Stevens tried to get under Dulock going down the front stretch. Dulock ran hard into turn one on the outside and was able to keep the lead. A lap later and Stevens again dove under Dulock, this time in turn four, but with the same results in turn one. Lap ten, and Stevens was finally able to use the low line in turn two to get around Dulock. But Dulock was able drive it deeper into turn three and got under Stevens. Duloc would resume the lead coming out of turn four. The leaders weren't the only ones having fun, as on lap thirteen, Ware was able to get around the former road racer, Carr, for fourth. coming to the white flag, Stevens would again attack Dulock, diving under the leader going into turn four. But Steven couldn't get the drive he needed out of the corner and Dulock would go on to beat Stevens by a half car length for his first ever win at the speedway! Hertz Rent A Car I. M. C. A. In only the fourteenth weeks, this class has become on of the biggest, and some say best, at the speedway. It was Joe Fuller getting the jump on twenty of his fiercest competitors on the drop of the green flag. Fuller was followed by Clint Williams, Robert Embry, Keith Desmarais, and Gary White. On lap one Desmarias would get around Embry for fourth in turn two get third. Second place Williams would lose his right rear tire in turn three and pulled off out of the race. Due to the scramble to miss both Williams and his errant tire, the order behind Fuller on lap three was Desmarias in second, White in third, with Embry and Howard Twardokus in fourth and fifth. On the back stretch, White and Embry would go three wide with Desmarias. Desmarias' night would end soon with a wounded car. On lap four, Twardokus would sweep around White to get into third. Brian Mendenhall was moving up, and would be in fifth. Lap five saw White try to get back to third, with White a Twardokus side by side from turn one, until turn four of lap six! White would finally put Twardokus behind him. Yellow would be the color a lap later as Chris Burnett slowed to a stop in turn three. The restart order was Fuller, followed by the lappers of Mike Sadler and Larry Tuerck, then it was Embry in second, White ahead of Twardokus, and Mendenhall in fifth. On the restart Embry would suffer a flat right front tire and he would have to pit for a replacement. In the scramble to miss Embry's stricken car, Jessie Call took fourth from Mendenhall. On lap nine, Call would get around Twardokus for second in turn one. In turn three, it was Mendenhall's turn to pass Twardokus, moving himself up to third. Lap ten wasn't any kinder to Twardokus, as he fell to fourth when he was passed in turn three by Chris Florio. Lap eleven saw Mendenhall sweep around White in turn three to pick up third. On lap twelve Call and Mendenhall were in a side by side race for second down the back stretch. Call got a strong run in turn four to keep his runner up spot . On lap thirteen, White was challenging Mendenhall for third in turn two. They raced side by side down the back stretch and into turn three. White would get Mendenhall for third in turn four. As all that battling was taking place, the leader Fuller was pulling further and further away. He was putting on a great show as he handled lapped traffic masterfully. As the white flag was displayed to the racers, Twardokus was passing Florio for fifth. Fuller won in his first ever start in a Budweiser Racing Texas Twister from the pole. The top four cars of Fuller, Call, White, and Mendenhall were all claimed following the race. The claimers could only race the cars in the “King of the Hill” if they were a registered driver at the track. It was four wide as the green waved, with Mike Autrey leading the pack out of turn two. Behind him were, in order, Julie Kelly Zwiefelhofer, Travis Zwiefelhofer, PJ Egbert, Daniel Shipler. Egbert didn't stay in fourth long, as he got under T. Zwiefelhofer on the back stretch on lap one. They raced hard side by side until turn four, where Egbert took the spot. The next lap Egbert got under J. Zwiefelhofer in turn one and took over second. Lap three saw the siblings Zwiefelhofer racing door handle to door handle for third in turn one. Big sister Julie held off little brother Travis in turn two. T. Zwiefelhofer wouldn't let his sister beat him for long, and on lap four he swept around her on the front stretch to take over third. Meanwhile Egbert was running down leader Autrey, and as they raced under the crossed flags, Egbert made his move, diving under Autrey in turn one. The two touched in turn two, but both stayed i the gas. They raced hard wheel to wheel all the way to turn four, trading paint as they tried to out do each other in turn four. But it would be Ebert who won the battle in turn one, completing his worse to first charge through the field. Ebert went on to cruise to his astounding twelfth win of the year in only eighteen races! He did it with the engine he swapped with Shipler last week, when Shipler initiated a claim against Egbert. Cottman Transmissions Mini Stocks 1.712 PJ Egbert 2.1 Mike Autrey 3.20 Travis Zwiefelhofer 4.202 Julie "Kelly" Zwiefelhofer 5.38 Daniel Shipler Fifteen of the always exciting Corbin & Associates, Atty's I. M. C. A. Stock Cars were up next for fifteen laps of racing. It was Pole sitter Wayne Neff out to the early lead followed by Gary “Stormin” Norman, Robin Rasmussen, Jessie James Cox Jr, and Ron Simpson. Simpson would get around Cox Jr and Rasmussen on lap one to get into third. On lap two, Neff would suffer trouble in turn four and end up in the back of the pack. Lap three and Simpson was trying Norman in turn four for the lead. The were wheel to wheel down the front stretch and all the way to the back stretch until Simpson finally got the top spot going into turn three. Lots of racing and positions were changing behind the battle for the lead, and on lap five the top five were Simpson, Norman, Eric Jones, Chris Lanham, and Benji Kirkpatrick. Cham Savage would get by Kirkpatrick for fifth on the same lap. On lap seven, Jones was dispatching Norman on the front stretch to get into second. Norman would slip back further as Lanham, and Cham Savage got by, pushing him to fifth. Lap eight would see Jones attacking Simpson for the lead. Simpson surrendered the top spot to Jones in turn four. Thing stayed static for a bit, until lap twelve when Scott Bowles spun in turn three and collected Jacob Dunn and Rasmussen to bring out the only caution of the race. Savage pulled out of the race during caution. The restart top five were Jones, Simpson, Kirkpatrick, Shad Stevens, and Norman. In turn one on the restart Kirkpatrick would get around Simpson for second. In turn three, Cox Jr got around Lanham for sixth. As the field raced under the white flag, Mark Martin made an appearance at the speedway. Well, not really, it just turned out Jones did a Martin impression and slowed in turn two, letting Kirkpatrick by for the lead. Jones continued to cruise slowly around the track, and was passed by many cars. It turned out that Jones mistook the white flag for the checkered flag and stopped racing in turn two. Unfortunantly, the crowd was denied a last lap race between two of the best I. M. C. A. Stock car racers in the country, and the thirteenth starter, Kirkpatrick picked up his seventh win of the year. M. C. A. Modifieds race green to checkered in their twenty lap feature race. It was Allen Waltimire using his outside row one starting spot to take the early lead as the pack raced to the back stretch. He was followed by Andrew Simmerman, Paul Mullins, Jarrod Jennings, and Ken Old. Mullins would pass Simmerman for second in turn four, but it wouldn't last long as he started tumbling down the order, promoting Jennings to second, and Pat McGuire to fifth . McGuire was on a charge, getting around Old and Simmerman to get into third on lap one. Lap three saw both Old and PJ Egbert get by Simmerman to pick up fourth and fifth. One lap later, and Egbert dove inside of Old coming out of turn two. Ebgert would take over fourth from Old in turn three. Danny Gribble made an appearance in the top five, getting around Simmerman on the same lap. Wayne Walker would push Gribble back out of the top five, with a move in turn two on lap six. Lap nine saw the two drivers with the most wins this year duking it out for second. Egbert would dive under McGuire in turn one, but couldn't get the bite he needed coming out of turn two. For four laps Egbert was hounding McGuire, just looking for a tiny mistake to get by. Egbert would try the high line in turn three, but McGuire was able to hold him off coming out of turn four. Lap sixteen would see Egbert finally making the high line in turn three stick, as he would get third from McGuire. With just four laps left in the race, Waltimire had a healthy lead. Jennings was trying to catch him, but lapped traffic kept him at bay. That same lapped traffic allowed Egbert to close with Jennings, and on lap eighteen Egbert tried the high line, this time in turn two. The two raced wheel to wheel down the back stretch, with Jennings getting the advantage going into turn three. But Egbert used a cross over move and dove under Jennings, getting second in turn four. As the white flag waved, and Waltimire still with a good lead, Jennings tried to get under Egbert in turn three. As Waltimire crossed under the checkered flag first, it was Egbert and Jennings neck to neck for second. Egbert just hold off Jennings for the runner up spot. Allen Waltimer won his first feature race in two years! The monkey was not only off Watimire's back, but shots were heard, and funeral services for the monkey will held later in the week. Schiels The night was capped by the crowning of the first ever Budweiser Racing Texas Twister “King of the Hill”. Fourteen cars made their way to the infield to compete for the title. It is a two car, two lap race, with the winner returning to race another round, and the loser going home. The last two cars race for the crown, with the winner being the Budweiser Racing Texas Twister “King of the Hill” Round one 223 Howard Twardokus defeated 107.3 Nasty Nate 3 Mike Sadler defeated 9 Victoria Twardokus 71 Chris Florio defeated 7 Jared Bouchie 116s Kevin Myers defeated 37 James Deane 17 Billy White (in the claimed car of Neil Elliott defeated 12 Aaron White 1 Gary White (in a borrowed car) defeated 95 Corey Homan 20 Neil Elliot (in the claimed car of Jessie Call) defeated 829 JD Hardcastle Quarter Finals 223 Howard Twardokus defeated 3 Mike Sadler 71 Chris Florio defeated 116s Kevin Myers 1 Gary White defeated 17 Billy White Semi Finals 223 Howard Twardokus defeated 20 Neil Elliott handely In the wildest “King of the Hill” races I have ever seen, Chris Florio was blacked flaged for “illegal use of the front bumper”. He and White were almost glued together the entire race. Florio turned White coming out of turn two on lap on and White just managed to gather it back up and continue, though they were swapping paint the rest of the lap. Then on the final lap, again in turn two, Florio turned White and kept his foot in the gas, pushing White sideways down the back stretch. White would suffer a flat tire in the incident, and Florio was shown the black flag. Budweiser Racing Texas Twisters “King of the Hill” Final After White changed his flat tire, he and Twardokus went head to head for the crown. The winner would be remembered for ever, the loser lost to history. Twardokus got the early lead, but White was putting a lot of pressure on him. In turn four, White dove to the bottom of the track and they raced side by side around the to turn four again, where Twardokus almost spun his car. White, the current points leader, was crowned “King of the Hill” Join us next week as Herts Rent A Car presents the racing, and the I. M. C. A. Southern SportMods “King of the Hill”. Also bring $500 dollars cash to the front gate after the National Anthem and if you are one of the first four to do so, you can claim a Budweiser Racing Texas Twister Gates open at 6:00 PM and racing starts at 8:00 PM.
