With the invert by roll of the dice, the top four were inverted putting Jeff Pollard and Ronnie New on the front row. The race got off to a rocky start when Davis Edwards spun and got T-boned by David Snokhaus, then hit by Gary Harvey, Michael Jones spun to miss the pile. On the second try Brian Schild got into Lloyd Alexander who spun in turn two, while brother Allen Alexander was spinning in the back up.

Finally under a green, Pollard and New rubbed their way into turn one with Pollard getting the edge coming out of two. It wasn't long till the caution came out again when Brad Hudak and Mike Yale made contact, causing Yale to spin, with A. Alexander again spinning as the field stacked up. Once back to green the top three of Pollard, New and Robert Stewart started to pull ahead on lap 15.

One lap later Edwards would spin to bring the yellow out once again. On the restart Pollard got a car length on New as the top four edged away from the field. New closed back in by lap 25, while Hudak was looking to get inside Stewart for third. By lap 30 the leader ran up on heavy traffic allowing New to get back on Pollards bumper. The top two were putting distance on Stewart, Hudak, L. Alexander and Tommy Gural as the crossed flags were shown for halfway.

Just after the mid point Ian Webster and Beau Bukowski were both able to get by Steve Sims for 7th & 8th, as Sims started to fade on the long run. Stewart used lap traffic to reel in the the lead duo on lap 40, with only a car length between the the three. Each time Pollard would look to ease away bfrom New, New would run him back down. Lap 52 saw New trying to get by Pollard on the low side, but was unable to get by.

The leaders again ran into heavy traffic on lap 55, but caught a break when caution flew on lap 56 when Yale slowed and was unable to get to the pits. The points leader coming in then parked it ending up in 19th and losing the points lead. The race restarted with 15 to go with Pollard getting a slight advantage until yellow came out on lap 64 when Hudak got into Stewart, who spun, as Hudak found the turn four wall forcing L. Alexander and Bukowski to scatter.

With the lap count stopped with ten to go, the race resumed with the top 5 in line. On the restart A. Alexander got into Teresa Gural and drove up across the hood to slow the action again. On the next restart L. Alexander tried to get by Stewart, who was slowing with a flat tire, and knocked in the hood. To. Gural got into L. Alexander in the chain reaction causing L. Alexander to spin.

Just as the green came back out L. Alexander would lose the hood bringing the yellow hankie out again. Pollard got a small lead on the restart while a good three car battle between Bukowski, Sims and Leland Waddell was going on for third. With 5 to go Pollard had his biggest advantage, and coincidently ran his fastest lap, getting five cars over New. With two to go New had regained the space and was right back on Pollard as Waddell got by Sims for fourth. On the final lap New gave it his best shot driving deep into three and coming out of four sideways trying to get by Pollard. But as the checkers flew it was Pollard in the DC Eagle Paint and Body/KAM/Polydyn/Gran Prix taking the win and moving into the points lead.
