Races Postponed at San Antonio Speedway

San Antonio, TX (June 17, 2006) – The Texas Two-Step Nationals and NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series (NDWS) races scheduled for later today, June 17, at San Antonio Speedway have been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

It has already been raining most of the morning at the speedway, and more rain is forecast for the rest of the day – various weather sources are showing a 60%-80% chance of rain throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Terry Dickerson, San Antonio Speedway President and CEO, did not make the decision to postpone the races lightly. “We hate to disappoint all of our race teams and fans by cancelling tonight’s race. And we hope we’re making a good decision based on all of the weather reports. Unfortunately, we’re all amateurs when it comes to predicting the weather and we’re forced to rely on the weather websites, TV and radio forecasts, and pending weather alerts to make our decision. And we know how it backfires sometimes when the professionals get it wrong. On the other hand, we know how badly rain is needed in the San Antonio area, so hopefully everyone can forgive Mother Nature for changing our Saturday night plans.”

Based on Friday evening’s practice session, a good car count had been expected for this evening’s USRA Super Late Model Texas Two-Step Nationals race and the NDWS races. The United States Racing Association (USRA) and San Antonio Speedway had just launched an extensive advertising campaign earlier this week that included ads on a prime television station (WOAI-TV) and a couple of the country music stations (Y100 and KKYX). In addition, over 5,000 flyers were distributed all over San Antonio, and kids’ free discount coupons were offered at all of the Express Lube locations. Media coverage was also scheduled for this evening by KABB-TV.

The Texas Two-Step Nationals USRA Super Late Model race will be rescheduled, and the new race date will be announced by Tuesday, June 20.

The racing action will resume at San Antonio Speedway next Saturday night, June 24, with racing by the USRA Modifieds and Trucks, along with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Late Model, Sportsman, Road Runner and Grand Stock classes.

The grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying will start at 6 p.m., and the first green flag will drop at 7 p.m.

San Antonio Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned short-track in the state of Texas. It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility.
