Willie Palmer and all persons in our Armed Forces with this Special Memorial Day Race. Extra money will be added to the purse for all classes, except the Jr Mini Stocks. The money is being provided by Dan Corbin and Corbin & Associates, Attorneys to honor one of America's fallen heroes specifically, and all military members, past and present. Cpl. William “Willie” Palmer, a native of Michigan, was stationed at Ford Hood, Texas in the 502nd MP Co. assigned to the Tiger Brigade, 2nd AD. He, an avid race fan, could have been seen in the pit area of the Speedway during the 1989 and 1990 seasons. The Gulf War erupted and his unit was sent to Saudi Arabia at the end of the 1991 season. The Tiger Brigade led the first US Forces into Kuwait on February 23rd, 1991. Two Days later, Cpl. Palmer was killed when his vehicle hit an Iraqi land mine. To be eligible for the contingency money, cars must have Willie Palmer's name on the race car. Letters need to be at least 3” tall. You may chose the color and style, but they must be neat. They can be either painted or vinyl and must be able to be seen from the grandstands. You must NOT use marker or shoe polish to display the name. The highest finishing driver in each class' feature event (except the Jr Mini Stocks) will be eligible for the extra money, PROVIDED, they have Willie Palmer displayed properly on their race car . Rest in peace Cpl. Palmer. Your country is proud of you. Gates open at 6:00 PM and racing starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $3 for kids 6-12 and kids under 6 are free. Season passes are available as well. New for fans this year is the ability to purchase their tickets online with a credit card. Just go to the Texas Thunder Speedway web site, and click on the “Buy and Print Tickets” button. Also you can use your Visa or Master Card in the tracks souvenir and concession stands.
