“Stock Car & Guitars” and Truck Fest Coming to San Antonio Speedway on June 3

San Antonio, TX (May 17, 2006) – Following a few weeks off, San Antonio Speedway (SAS) is turning the lights back on in a big way on Saturday, June 3. SAS fans and drivers can plan on a full evening of fun and activities during the “Stock Cars & Guitars” and Truck Fest, starting at 5:00 p.m.

The June 3 agenda at the half-mile paved oval begins with a Truck Fest that will feature truck displays and contests. Race fans and members of truck clubs from all over the San Antonio area are being invited to display their trucks and participate in a contest that will award $500 to the best-looking truck and $250 to the ugliest truck. Contest entries must be trucks only (have a rear bed). No contest entry fee will be required, and participants may sign up for the Truck Fest after purchasing a $15 grandstand admission ticket.

Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for fans wishing to view the trucks prior to the judging. The trucks will also be part of the parade laps during opening ceremonies.

Starting with opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., a full night of stock car racing is on tap at the speedway. Returning to SAS will be the fast and exciting USRA Modifieds and USRA Trucks, along with the NASCAR Late Model, Sportsman, Road Runner and Grand Stock classes.

Topping off the racing action will be a highly entertaining and unpredictable “Boat Race.” The Grand Stock drivers will be towing boats around the half-mile asphalt speedway and will be attempting to dislodge each other’s unsecured boats from their trailers. The last car with a boat still on the trailer will be declared the winner.

“Although we’ve been off for the last couple of weeks, we’ve certainly stayed busy getting things lined up for June 3,” stated Rick Day, San Antonio Speedway’s General Manager. “We realize that our fans like to be entertained, and we have plenty of activities planned throughout the evening. Be sure you mark your calendars for this big event.”

Highlighting the evening will be a live concert by Woody Lee, who is an award winning country music songwriter with a Number 1 record under his belt. He has also charted a single of his own. Lee grew up around Dallas, Texas, listening to all genres of music. He began performing in clubs at the age of 17 – playing covers from his musical influences – George Jones, Merle Haggard and George Strait. Lee wants to continue their legacy of traditional country music. He keeps this birthright alive in the honkytonks across Texas, where applause is not heard from hands but by the shuffling of feet on the dance floor which is rarely empty when Lee’s on stage.

Special guests for the June 3 events will be Richard Pickett and his family. Pickett and his wife, who are loyal San Antonio Speedway fans, have been saving up for Richard's much-needed, but very expensive, kidney transplant for some time. During the evening the stock car drivers will be asked to bring their racing helmets into the grandstands to collect donations from fans, race teams, officials and the staff. One of San Antonio Speedway’s most active sponsors, Harold Smith from Express Lube, has already made a generous donation to the Pickett family, and he has challenged others to do the same.

San Antonio Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned short-track in the state of Texas. It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility.

Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m., and the races will begin at 6:45 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for seniors and Military (with ID) and $3 for children ages 7-12. Children six and under are admitted free.
