arts22
400-hp? Only the crate motors or does the restrictor plate limit the 600hp motors to 400hp?
Pacecar
400 hp is being optimistic with the "nickel-sized" restrictor plate holes.
holley4berl@yahoo.com
The crates with a 3/4" restictor plate make 305 HP which is more than the 9:1 or concepts with a plate.
TheLegend96
300 is greatly optimistic if I remember correctly with a 9:
Waco Racer
Are the crate engines built to run on a track like TMS? Are they able to handle the long runs of wide open throttle?
jracer98
I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know if crates have ever been run on a mile and a half before in a no lift situation? Was that last " Steve Dale ASA" race at Charlotte (the one that had all the purse problems and had the rolling stock "attached" by the track) a crate engine deal? Those were the fuel injected engines and I just don't know if they were the same in terms on short block, quality of valvetrain, etc. Thanks Jay
Waco Racer
The engines in the Steve Dale era were of the LS family and had more dedicated valve train parts. The crate engines aren't. I believe they also ran at Atlanta to end the season, talk about WOT!
Pacecar
Whether a '604 wetsump crate would withstand continuous full-throttle at TMS is a very big question. And throw any OEM guarantee out-the-window for running a crate with a modified fueling system (i.e. any type of restrictor plate or different carb). Also, don't believe that the wetsump oiling system is configured for long, high-banked straightaways, with the oil uncovering the oil pump pickup on the right-side of the pan. An 400 hp+ unrestricted crate would either blow up or win the race. P.S. I hate crashing when I get into someone else's oil on the track.... especially at 140 mph.
