The high octane fuel supplied by VP Racing Fuels powered high octane racing on the track! The always exciting Jr Mini Stocks were the first to hit the track, as six of the youngsters lined up for their twelve lap feature race. Joseph Charnock would get the early jump on the field, but would be chased down by first Colton Monroe and then Brad VanMarter. Monroe's ride would roll to a stop, giving the lead back to Charnock. VanMarter would get around Charnock, then Ryan Ellis would get around, pushing Charnock to third. That is the way they would cross the line, with VanMarter getting his second win of the year. Jr Mini Stocks 1.244 Brad VanMarter 2.14e Ryan Ellis 3.22 Joseph Chamock 4.4r Nathan Robbins 5.712 Colton Monroe 6.14 Clayton Harzog The Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Street Stocks were up next for their fifteen lap feature race. The race would get off to a rocky start with the points leader, Trevor Sparkman spinning in turn three on lap one to bring out the first caution. On the restart the leader was Danny Dunn. On lap five defending track champion Robert Simmerman would get by Dunn as they raced in heavy lapped traffic. A lap later Dave Meadows would pull off of the track and out of fourth place. On lap eight, Albert Winniger Jr would get around Dunn and take over second. As the laps started to wind down the leaders would be in lap traffic. On the eleventh circuit Simmerman would touch Lisa Parent as they were in turn four and cut his left rear tire. Points leader Sparkman was making a charge back to the front, eventually finishing fourth. The bad luck for Simmerman was good for Winniger Jr as he took over the lead and paced the field for the final three circuits to his first win of the season. M. C. A. Stock Cars were the next to test their luck on the track for fifteen laps. Eighteen of the fast cars made the call. The green flag lap wouldn't be a good one for Don Lewis, as he cut down a tire as he was in the middle of a three way fight off of turn four. Defending track champion Cham Savage Jr would get the jump on the field and started to run off and hide. On lap eight, teammates Zana Craig and Vernon “Buck” Owens would bring out a yellow. Craig spun in turn two and Owens would have nowhere to go but into the side of Craig's car. Both would rejoin the fight, though at the back of the pack. As the race reached halfway, the leader, Savage Jr was catching lapped traffic. As the front runners made their way around the heavy traffic, former champion Eric Jones would use that traffic to get around Jake Dunn to take over second. With so many cars on the track, traffic would continue to play a role and it became apparent that the driver that got through it the best would come out on top. On lap eleven, Jones would finally close the gap to Savage Jr, pulling alongside him on the back stretch. However Savage Jr would have enough car to hold off Jones. Two laps later, the battle for third was as hot as the one for the lead. Dunn would be under attack from another former champion, Anthony Otken. Otken would get by Dunn, but his race would go south as he would slow dramatically allowing Dunn back into third. Jones couldn't match Savage in traffic, and Savage would go on to win his first race of the season. Corbin & Associates, Attys I. M. C. A. Nineteen of the fast Dodge Country I. M. C. A. Modifieds took to the track for their twenty lap feature race. On the green flag lap, fifth place starter Allen Waltermire would get the lead going down the back stretch. Also on the back stretch Ken Old would slow and have to take his machine to the red-yellow area for service. On the second circuit, Ben Ketteman and PJ Egbert would be side by side for second, but Ketteman would hold Egbert off. But going into turn two, Ketteman would spin his ride, bringing out a caution and putting him to the rear for the restart. On the restart, Egbert would pounce on Waltermire and take over the lead in turn two. Waltermire would fight back hard, but would not get back the lead. On lap three, the eighth place starter, Pat McGuire would get around Waltermire in turn two for second. McGuire, the winner of the last two races wasn't finished in his march to the front as Egbert would fall victim in turn four. On lap six Egbert's race would go sour as he spun off the top of turn three, out of second, and bringing out the yellow flag. He would also have to restart in the rear of the field. On the restart, Danny Gribble would get around Andrew Simmerman in turn three and take over the third spot. On lap nine Simmerman would be wheel to wheel with Trevor Egbert in the race for fourth. Entering turn two T. Egbert would get that spot. With only five laps to go Gribble would get around Waltermire for second , but it wouldn't last as current points leader Glen Derks II rolled to a stop in turn three bringing out a caution and reverting the scoring to the last lap. PJ Egbert was making a charge back up through the field. With McGuire in the lead and Waltermire in second and Gribble in third, the green flagged waved. Gribble would get around Waltermire for that second spot, and started to pressure McGuire. But Gribble would not be able to pass McGuire as his car pulled up lame going down the back stretch, out of second. Waltermire wouldn't have enough laps left to catch McGuire, as the Belton native completed the hat trick, winning three feature races in a row. Dodge Country I. M. C. A. M. C. A. Southern SportMods were up next. This is the newest I. M. C. A. class to be sanctioned at the track. Eight of these fantastic racers showed up to do battle. There were nine of the cars entered, but current points leader Mike McDougal had bad luck even before the night got under way and would not start. This left the points lead wide open going into this race. On the green flag, pole sitter, Larry Ware would stumble allowing former I. M. C. A. Modified track champion Hardy Henderson the point with Trace Crawford hot on his heels. Cody Frank, in his first apperance at the track this year would be pressuring Crawford on lap three for third. Crawford would hold off the eighth place starter for a lap, but Frank would get by him on lap four. A lap later going down the front stretch Cody would be side by side with Henderson in a fight for the lead. The two would stay glued together wheel to wheel until turn three when Frank would complete his worst to first charge and pass Henderson. Henderson's good run would come to an end on lap seven as he slowed dramatically on the track. A lap latter and his car would lose all fire in turn three, bringing out a yellow flag. On the restart, Shad Stevens would get by Crawford for second place going into turn one. As the laps wound down, the first three spots would stay static, but the race was heating up for fourth. Ware and Kevin West were in a terrific battle for fourth as the white flag waved. Ware would hold on to the spot, and West would slow with mechanical problems. Frank would beat everyone to the checkered flag and claim his first ever victory at Texas Thunder Speedway. After the race, Shad Stevens, who had finished in second on the track had that taken away in the tech area. He was deemed to have an illegal engine. Hertz Rent A Car I. M. C. A. Southern SportMods 1.7 Cody Frank 2.63c Trace Crawford 3.77 Larry Ware 4.34 Corey Homan 5.17w Billy White 6.11w Kevin West 7.6 Hardy Henderson DQ 231 Shad Stevens – illegal engine Eleven Cottman Transmissions Mini Stocks pulled on to the track to contest their fifteen lap feature race. Pole sitter Mike Autrey and Ricky Reed would go door handle to door handle on the drop of the green flag. Autrey would hold off Reed to keep the first position. Coming out of turn four, Travis Zwiefelhofer would spin out of third place and rejoin the racing in last place. Zwiefelhofer's spin put Ronnie Ellis Jr into third. Ellis Jr would put Read under pressure in the race for second on lap three as the two raced side by side through turns one and two. Reed would hold off Ellis Jr and keep second. But Ellis Jr would get by Reed a lap latter, using the low line in turn two to get the job done. A lap later and Kelly Zwiefelhofer would get in a tangle with Ralph Nelson in turn four. Both would come away from the incident with damage, but both continued without bringing out a yellow. On lap six Ellis Jr would complete his march to the front by passing Autrey for the lead in turn four. On lap nine Reed would dive under Autrey in turn four in a bid for second place, but Autrey would beat back the attack. The Zwiefelhofer siblings were making their way back to the front, with big brother Travis in fourth, and on lap thirteen, Kelly passing Nelson to get into the fifth place. K. Zwiefelhofer would fall back a position as Joseph Gregoire would get by and push her back to sixth. Autrey was pushing as hard as he could, but Ellis Jr would get the the checkered flag first. Cottman Transmissions Mini Stocks 1.14 Ronnie Ellis Jr 2.1 Mike Autrey 3.44 Rickey Reid 4.20 Travis Zwiefelhofer 5.43 Joseph Gregoire 6.202 Julie "Kelly" Zwiefelhofer 7.51 Ralph Nelson Jr 8.17 Billy White 9.712 PJ Egbert 10. 9 Eric Robbins Sr 11. 62 Larry Sanders The always wild and woolly Budweiser Racing Texas Twister's finished out the nights racing. Nine of the cars that race, not race cars took to the track for their fifteen lap race. Because there were not ten or more cars, there was no opportunity for a claim. On the wave of the green flag, Chris Ware would get the lead from his outside row one starting position. Little Ronnie Tanner would slot into second. Coming out of turn four to complete lap one LR Tanner would sweep around Ware to take the lead. A lap later and Ware would get back by LR Tanner in turn two. Jessie Call would get around LR Tanner in turn four and be in the second spot. On lap three LR Tanner would get back by Call as they raced down the back stretch. Call would fall victim to another Tanner, this time Ronald Ray Tanner as he took over third in turn three on lap five. As that battle was going on, LR Tanner would shoot back by Ware, in what would be a lead swapping duel. Lap seven would see Ware regain the top spot using turn four to push LR Tanner back to second. But as they went down the back stretch on lap eight, LR Tanner would once again get his car into the lead. Ware would pressure LR Tanner hard and that would payoff as LR Tanner went to high in turn two and let Ware back by. LR Tanner wouldn't be threat after that. While the terrific battle was going on up front, James Tanner was making his way steadily through the field, and with LR Tanner's problems, he was able to take over second. But J. Tanner would have problems as his hood would fly up and block his view out of the wind screen. That didn't slow down J. Tanner, and he would pass Ware for the lead on lap twelve in turn two. The two would race side by side swapping the lead virtually every corner. Ware would be first to see the white flag (though in fairness J. Tanner couldn't possibly see much), with J. Tanner right on his bumper. They raced the last lap hard, bumping and banging as they came to the line. Ware would just hold off J. Tanner by a half car length. As the cars pulled to the infield, the loudest cheers of the night were for J. Tanner and his fantastic drive with the hood covering his view. These crowd pleasing special races will take place at the end of the night. All the Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Street Stock drivers wishing to compete will present themselves to the infield stagging area. They will be paired up and a coin will determine which car in the pair starts on the pole. They will race for two laps with the winner going beck to the infield while the looser is out. This is repeated until there are only two cars left with the winner between those crowned the 2006 Kwik Kar Oil & Lube Street Stock King of the Hill. New for fans this year is the ability to purchase their tickets online with a credit card. Just go to the Texas Thunder Speedway web site, and click on the “Buy and Print Tickets” button. Also you can use your Visa or Master Card in the tracks souvenir and concession stands. Gates open at 6:00 PM and racing starts at 8:00 PM.
