  2. Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals Weekend Canceled Due To Impassable Grounds by Bryan Hulbert MESQUITE, Texas (March 13, 2019) With the grounds of the Devil's Bowl Speedway already soft due to an abundance of rain over the past month, an additional 2.5" of moisture fell overnight into Wednesday morning, putting the final nail in the coffin for this weekend's Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. "We want to race. There is no question of that, and we're not happy about having to cancel but we can't very well put on a show if we can't get the teams into the Pits to put on that show," commented Devil's Bowl Promoter, Lanny Ross Edwards, who explained that they were already having to pull rigs out of the pits this past Saturday during practice. As of now, the next events for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network will be Eagle Raceway on April 25 and U.S. 36 Raceway on April 26. Dirt Cup 2018 Format: Drivers will compete on both qualifying nights as combined points from Heat Races, Qualifiers, B-Mains, and A-Mains will set the lineup for Saturday night. Any tie in points will be broken by Friday's passing point totals. ASCS Format will be utilized with draw in for Heat Race starting position and passing points to determine drivers who advance to Qualifiers and B-Mains. 54 cars or less: Top 30 in Passing Points from Heat Races will move into 3 Qualifiers. Remainder will fall to the tail of the night's "B" Features. Top 18 will be inverted with the highest point earner from Heat Races starting sixth in the first Qualifier. Qualifiers will be 8 laps each. Passing Points will be utilized with the driver's total points combined with their Heat Race total. The top 16 in combined Passing Points will advance to the A-Feature. Drivers will not redraw for their starting position. Lineup is straight up by the combined Passing Point total. The remainder will fall into B-Features. Number of B-Features is dependent upon the number of cars. 40-50 cars means remaining drivers will drop into two "B" Features. 51-60 will drop into three "B" Features. Lineup will be done by passing point totals with 17th going to the pole of the first "B" Feature, 18th to the pole of the second "B" Feature, etc. 55 cars or more: Top 40 in Passing Points from Heat Races will move into 4 Qualifiers. Remainder will fall to the tail of the night's "B" Features. Top 24 will be inverted with the highest point earner from Heat Races starting sixth in the first Qualifier. If one B is needed, the top 6 drivers will advance to the A-Feature. If two B's, then the top three, if three B's, then the top two. Following Friday night, driver's combined points will be tallied with the top 16 drivers locked into Saturday's A-Feature. Ranking 17-48 will be split among two B-Features with 17th to the pole of the first B-Main, 18th to the pole of the second B-Main, 19th to the outside front row of the first B-Main, 20th to the outside front row in the second B-Main; continuing down until each B-Main has 16 cars. 4. Seth Bergman On Top With ASCS Red River at Red Dirt Raceway by Bryan Hulbert MEEKER, Okla. (June 1, 2018) The debut of the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products at Meeker, Oklahoma's Red Dirt Raceway was a thrilling one with Washington's Seth Bergman claiming Friday's $2,000 prize. Mike Howard photo Bergman's seventh career win with the Red River Region, the No. 23 gave chase at the drop of the green as Sean McClelland darted into the lead. Running the low line of the quarter-mile oval, McClelland paced the field the first four laps before Seth overtook the No. 22 on the cushion. Under some pressure as the leaders worked through traffic, cautions would allow Seth to pull away with the race's final restart on Lap 23 putting the No. 15h of Sam Hafertepe, Jr. runner-up in the lineup. Not able to advance to the point, Seth's win is his fourth in ASCS competition in 2018. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. in second was joined on the podium by Sean McClelland. 7. Hafertepe Holds Off Swindell For Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series Victory At I-30 Speedway by Bryan Hulbert LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 12, 2018) Scoring his first victory of the 2018 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. had to hold off Sammy Swindell to get the job done at I-30 Speedway this past Saturday night. Entering Saturday fourth in tour standings, Sam leaves I-30 Speedway tied with Seth Bergman for the National Tour point's lead with the nod to Bergman who has a pair of wins on the season. (Image Credit: Serena Dalhamer) "For the fifth night on this car, we're making strides. Jack Elam called me, and he asked if there was anything he could do, and I said it wasn't anything a little wrench won't fix. We've been working hard the last couple days. We were really disgusted after Lakeside to start on the front row and fall back like we did, but to come out tonight and start fifth and get to the front it was awesome, and winning on Mother's Day Weekend, I have to just thank my Mom and wish her a Happy Mother's Day." Taking the lead with a Lap 15 pass through turns three and four on race long leader Derek Hagar, the two-time National Tour Champion was joined at the front by Swindell on Lap 18. Clawing his way to second from the 16th starting spot, a restart with three laps to go locked Sammy on the back bumper of the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h. "Sammy just had an unfortunate Heat Race. It was one of the last ones where the track changed to the bottom where it was hard to pass, so that's why he had to start that far back, but I knew he'd be coming. He's got this track's number and we all know that he's the guy we have to hold off no matter if he started 16th of 20th, he'd be coming," stated Sam on the front straightaway. Hafertepe's 31st career Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com triumph, the second attempt at green after Harli White spun in the first and second turns put Sam to third behind Derek Hagar and Wayne Johnson to start things off. Working Lap 2, the red lights blinked on as Seth Bergman flipped going into turn three. Seth was unharmed, and the race resumed with Hagar starting to put distance over the field. Still chasing Wayne Johnson for second, Hafertepe worked multiple grooves with the No. 2c able to hold until Lap 11 when the cushion in the first turn bit, and sent Wayne flying. Able to stay upright, Wayne rejoined at the tail. Taking over second with Sammy Swindell already up to third, Hafertepe kept pace with the No. 9jr before finally diving to the lead through the third and fourth turns on Lap 15. Caution working Lap 17 for Skylar Gee who slowed drastically in turn-three with the field bearing down, the laps rolled back to 16 complete with Hafertepe taking off with the lead. Slowed again on Lap 19, Swindell was all over Hafertepe for the lead. Able to utilize the center through turns one and two to keep his momentum up, Swindell pulled even with Sam at one point, but would not be able to complete the pass. Never out of striking distance, it was high-speed chess as the pair began racing among the back makers, only to have the caution waved for the final time with three laps to run. Taking the center through the first and second turns to try and get a run on Hafertepe for the lead, Swindell still trailed with all other attempts coming up short. Sammy's 33rd career podium finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, the wily veteran was joined by three-time National Tour Champion, Tim Crawley, who advanced from the 11th starting spot. Along with Sammy, the "Crawdaddy" was among the few who could make the top of the track work in the feature. Derek Hagar held on to finish fourth with Marshall Skinner making up the top-five. Picking up the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, Howard Moore advanced position 15 times to finish sixth. Oklahoma's Tyler Thomas from 15th crossed seventh with Blake Hahn eighth. Matt Covington put on a charge from 17th to ninth with Johnny Herrera finishing 10th. Overall, 38 drivers took to the I-30 Speedway on Saturday night. Heats numbered five with Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Derek Hagar, Travis Rilat, Blake Hahn, and Dale Howard picking up wins. A pair of BMRS B-Features went to Cody Gardner and Matt Covington. Two Owner Points Provisionals were used by Roger Crockett and Scott Bogucki. One Regional provisional was awarded to Kevin Hinkle. Next for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com will be the start to Speedweek at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas on June 8. 8. Seth Bergman Excels At Lakeside Speedway With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series by Bryan Hulbert KANSAS CITY, Kan. (May 10, 2018) The first repeat winner of the 2018 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Washington's Seth Bergman tracked down his first career Lakeside Speedway triumph to become the fifth National Tour winner in just as many events at the Kansas oval. "This was a tough field. I was trying to conserve my tires there at the beginning because the track was wearing tires all night, but we got to a point where [Brian] Brown lid me and I knew I had to get going," stated Seth who went slide for slide with Brown following a Lap 9 restart. (Image Credit: Terry Ford) "That race was a workout. I don't know if I've ever driven that hard, but Brown made me get up on the wheel and I think I caught Tony because he was out front and just didn't know where the track was going. He was leaning on the cushion the whole race, and when you're leading, it's hard to move around and search. I was just fortunate enough to be able to mix it up and found a lane that worked." The third driver to lead the way in Thursday's McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic A-Feature, Seth found the center line coming into play as the race approached Lap 20. With Stewart railing the cushion at both ends of the four-tenths mile oval, Seth began quickly cutting down his advantage. Setting up for the run with 19 laps complete, Bergman was able to race to the lead on the following lap. "When you're the leader, it's hard to search and know if rubber comes in. The guy behind you are able to search around and find it, and the two guys that finished ahead of us are really good Racecar drivers and really good Sprint Car drivers," stated Stewart who ended up third for the second night in a row as Brian Brown worked by Stewart's Rush Truck Centers No. 14 on Lap 21. Chasing Jack Dover the first round, Stewart stuck the right rear to the cushion and grabbed the lead on the second lap with both crossing the line at the same time. Caution on Lap 9 for Harli White who slowed off the second turn, the restart was short lived as Robbie Price and Paul Nienhiser tangled in the first turn with Nienhiser keeping his No. 9 rolling, and thus, keeping the fifth position. Falling to sixth as the field rolled again on the next restart, Paul's night ended with mechanical issues on Lap 12. Coming to a stop on Lap 14 with Jamie Ball and Chris Martin tangling on the backstretch, the race resumed with Stewart leading over Dover, Bergman, Brown, and Hafertepe in the top-five. Immediately pulling away as Bergman slide Jack Dover to second, the center groove in play put Seth able to run down the No. 14 and lead the final six laps. Brian Brown in second advanced nine positions to pick up the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger. "My team, Chad, Michael, Dad, everybody on the Casey's General Store/FVP car did good. I just didn't do my job in the Heat Race and got us buried and really at one point, I passed Seth a couple times so I'm kind of kicking myself for not being able to secure that spot because that could have been me standing there, but Seth did a great job." 9. Victory for Wayne Johnson In Lucas Oil ASCS debut at Humboldt Speedway by Bryan Hulbert HUMBOLDT, Kan. (May 9, 2018) Picking up his first victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Wayne Johnson got the win in the series debut at the Humboldt Speedway on Wednesday night, making it seven events with just as many winners so far in 2018. Leading all 25 laps at the Kansas bullring, the win is Johnson's 51st overall and second in the state of Kansas with the National Tour. Wayne's last trip to Victory Lane came on July 4, 2008, at Lakeside Speedway where the series will race on Thursday, May 10. The win also brought Johnson within a single point of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com point's lead. "First off I have to thank Vern and Slippy. They worked their butts off on this thing. Vern's just here for a little bit trying to help get me lined out, but our short track program is really good right now," commented Johnson. "Last year we came here for a Regional show and we stunk up the place, so we just threw something at this thing and it worked. We have Lakeside tomorrow, so we'll see if we can get our big track program rolling there." Able to beat Blake Hahn into the first two turns, Wayne would have to do it a second time as the caution flew before a lap could be completed. Collecting Kyle Bellm, the No. 14k was able to restart after contact with Parker Price-Miller. Back to green for four laps, the caution was followed by the red as Scott Bogucki slammed the wall in turn one. Scott was okay but done for the night. Single-file to the start, Johnson rolled the top of the Humboldt Speedway into the first and second turns with Blake Hahn in tow. Unable to advance past the No. 2c, Hahn kept close as the pair worked to slower traffic. Starting to ramp up his run at the race's mid-point, Hahn set sights on the lead only to have the caution lights blink on for debris in the fourth turn. With clean track ahead, Wayne worked carefully around the Humboldt Speedway as the groove migrated to the bottom. Careful to hit his marks, the final five laps saw the back of the field about to come into play. Able to avoid racing the back-markers, Wayne held on to victory by 1.117 seconds. Hahn's third trip to Humboldt Speedway in ASCS competition, the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 has not finished off the podium as the final step was filled by the driver of the Rush Truck Centers No. 14 of Tony Stewart who advanced from the eighth starting spot. Stewart was also Wednesday's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Johnny Herrera in fourth was trailed by Matt Covington to complete the top-five. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was sixth with Parker Price-Miller ending up seventh. Seth Bergman in eighth continues to hold the top spot in the tour standings with Tyler Thomas finishing ninth. Subbing for Travis Rilat in the BDS Motorsports No. 1, California's Logan Seavey rounded out the top-ten. The field of 25 drivers was dropped into a trio of BMRS Heat Races with Blake Hahn, Johnny Herrera, and Parker Price-Miller taking wins. No B-Feature was contested so no Provisionals were needed. The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com competes next on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Lakeside Speedway for the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic. With Johnson winning Wednesday at Humboldt, he is in the running for an extra $1,000 from McCarthy Auto Group if he can win at Lakeside. 11. Blane Heimbach Prevails With Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series At Selinsgrove Speedway Bryan Hulbert - SELINSGROVE, Penn. (May 5, 2018) Becoming the 141st winner with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, three-time Selinsgrove Speedway track champion, Blane Heimbach, put on a dominating performance to pocket $5,000, plus a $500 bonus thanks to Mach1 Chassis, at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night. Beating the rain by minutes to wrap up the 11 Oaks Farm Battle of the Groves, Heimbach was greeted by roaring applause as he exited his car on the front stretch. An emotional moment for Blane, the driver of the Goff Racing No. 12 choked back tears when he addressed the crowd and dedicated the race to his friend, Craig Vanhorn. "That race meant more to me than anyone here will know. I lost a crew member that has been with me since I started, and this is the first Sprint Car race I've won without him here. I'm not easy to work with or for, but I've had a group of guys that have helped me for a long time, and this winter just seemed like it was trial after trial with people having health issues, then losing one of my best guys, we've just started piecing together a new crew," stated Blane. "After working with somebody for 20 years, you don't even have to really talk. He knows what you want, and you know what he's going to do so working through that, it's been troublesome at times. I really took for granted over the years how good I had it and this just makes me appreciate what they've done, and how long they've been with me." Earning the front row with pole sitter, Seth Bergman, through the Heat/Qualifier format, Heimbach jetted into the lead through the first and second turns as Seth was left to fend off Trey Starks. Unable to hold off the charge of the Textron Off-Road No. 44s, the caution gave the Washington native a shot at the lead on Lap 3 but was unable to mount the charge. Working into slower traffic by the 10th revolution, the Mach1 Chassis No. 12 slipped past the backmarkers with ease. Opening to nearly three seconds over Starks, the No. 44s was able to chip away to bring the advantage to 1.967 seconds at the drop of the checkered flag. Starks best career finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, the Champion Brands No. 44s was joined on the podium by Davie Franek, who raced through the field from 10th. Posting his seventh top-five finish in just as many starts with the National Tour, Mark Smith crossed fourth in the Mach1 Chassis No. M1. Slipping back from the pole, Seth Bergman completed the top-five and reclaimed the top spot in the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com driver standings. Derek Locke in sixth was followed by Roger Crockett. Moving up from 12th, Scott Bogucki finished eighth with J.J. Grasso advancing nine positions to pick up the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Blake Hahn rounded out the night's top-ten. A field of 41 drivers on hand dropped into five Heat Races with Ryan Kissinger, Seth Bergman, Mark Smith, Blake Heimbach, and Mike Walter grabbing wins. Three Hoosier Tire Qualifiers were won by Robbie Stillwaggon, Roger Crockett, and Eddie Strada. A pair of BMRS B-Mains went to Ryan Smith and J.J. Grasso. One point based provisional was used by Skylar Gee. A promoters provisional was awarded by Chad Layton. The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com returns to competition with another new facility on the lineup at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan. on Wednesday, May 9, followed by the return to Lakeside Speedway on Thursday, May 10 for the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic. 14. Colton Hardy Charges To Victory With ASCS Southwest At Arizona Speedway by Bryan Hulbert QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (April 21, 2018) Picking up his third win in four events to start the 2018 season with the ASCS Southwest Region, Colton Hardy charged from eighth to snag Saturday's victory at the Arizona Speedway. Hardy's eighth career win with the ASCS Southwest Region, the Bandit Racing No. 74 worked from eighth to second in the first 11 laps. Clearing Rick Ziehl for the position, Hardy trailed by just over two seconds as Billy Chester held the point from the drop of the green flag. Steadily chipping away at the advantage of the No. 2b, Hardy's chance came as the white flag flew, only to have the caution bring the field back to the last fully completed lap. Taking advantage of the restart, Hardy again bolted to the lead on the final revolution to win by 0.983 seconds. Billy Chester held on for second with Rick Ziehl posting his best finish of the season in third. J.T. Imperial fourth was followed by Josh Shipley to complete the top-five. Lorne Wofford was sixth with Josh Hodges seventh. Jesse Baker, Jarrett Martin, and Alex Pettas made up the top-ten. The ASCS Southwest Region is back at Arizona Speedway on Saturday, May 5. (April 20, 2018) Picking up Friday's $2,000 top prize, Oklahoma City's Wayne Johnson was superb in slower traffic at Creek County Speedway with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products. Johnson's fifth career victory with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products, the Outlaw Wings No. 2c took the green from the fifth starting spot. Maneuvering through the low line into turn-one on Lap 17, Johnson pulled even with Covington but was denied the position. Swinging momentum through turns three and four, Wayne stuck to the top through the first and second turns to take the top spot away from the A-Rock Materials No. 95. Slowed working Lap 19, the restart rolled to the last fully completed lap with Johnson pulling away in clean air for the win. Matt Covington held on for second with Sean McClelland holding off the ferocious charge of Kyle Bell and Joe Wood, Jr. Seth Bergman crossed sixth with Kyle Clark moving to seventh from 14th. Following from 15th, Blake Hahn took eighth with Andrew Deal ninth from 18th. Making his first start behind the wheel of an ASCS machine, Cannon McIntosh came through the B-Feature to finish 10th. "This place had been good to me. We've won a couple of races here over the past few years, but nonetheless, he [Sam Hafertepe, Jr.] made me earn it," explained Seth when asked about the challenges for the lead. Seth Bergman picked up Night 1 of Tony Stewart presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals. The win is his 11th with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com. (Vince Vellella/ASCS) "The track was heavy tonight and I was good in open air, but when I got into traffic, it really dirtied up the wing and made it tough to get around there so that made lapped traffic even tougher and Sam obviously did a good job getting to me. I feel like I made a few mistakes there that let him get close, but we got lucky with the caution when he got to the inside of me. Sometimes it pays to be lucky like that, and tonight it did." Drawing the pole for the 25-lap feature event, Bergman would have to take two shots at holding the lead as the red flew following the first attempt for Harli White who flipped wildly into the wall through the first and second turns after contact from Wayne Johnson. Both drivers were unharmed. With the field restacked Seth again took off with the lead in the Oil Field Equipment and Manufacturing No. 23 with Matt Covington and Tony Stewart giving chase. Caution working the third-lap, Matt Covington would have to drop to the tail of the field as the left sideboard came off the top-wing of his Covington/Graves Motorsports No. 95. Keeping Tony Stewart at bay on the restart, Bergman would pull several car lengths over the Rush Truck Center No. 14 with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. holding third. Racing past Stewart on Lap 10 for the runner-up spot, Hafertepe began to close the gap as Bergman started to contend with slower traffic. Fighting dirty air with laps clicking off, handling the No. 23 became a handful for Seth with the car darting every way but straight as traffic continued to work into the mix. Stalking into the final two laps, the stage was set for Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Building the run as the leaders ran to the white flag, Seth worked into turn-one only to have dirty air again come into play as the two trailed a slower car. Trying to diamond through the first and second turns, it was too late as Hafertepe shot to the race lead only to have the caution lights blink on as Chance Morton spun to a stop off the second turn. Back to the last fully completed lap, the final two revolutions saw Seth hit his marks perfectly as he stretched his advantage to 1.007 seconds over Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at the drop of the checkered flag. Working to third on Lap 17, Sammy Swindell held on to claim the final podium step with Tony Stewart fighting a failing power-steering gear to hold the final transfer spot into Saturday's A-Feature. Running from the ninth starting spot, Blake Hahn completed the night's top-five. With the top-wing starting to buckle, Danny Jennings was able to hold on to finish sixth. Having to transfer through the second B-Feature, Australia's Scott Bogucki stormed through the field from 20th to earn the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Brandon Hanks was eighth with Robbie Price coming from 18th to ninth. The top-ten rounded out with Johnny Herrera. A field of 35 drivers was on hand to open up Tony Stewart presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals. Five Heat Races were topped by Wayne Johnson, Zane Lawrence, Harli White, Blake Hahn, and Tony Stewart. BMRS B-Features went to Alex Sewell and Robbie Price. Two provisional starts were utilized by Travis Rilat (BDS Motorsports), and Skylar Gee (Skylar Gee Motorsports). Tony Stewart presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals continues on Saturday, April 7 with grandstands opening at 6:00 P.M. and racing at 7:30 P.M. (CT).
