  1. I am looking fopr any info. on these two cars. They are said to be from the Portland, Or. area, I would guess mid to late 1970's. The purple faded to brown car is a Rice brand 80 inch. at one time this car was yellow with orange and red stripes, it still has a couple of really cool Bobby Allison decals on it that look orig. The little green car is also a Rice based chassis (Chrome Rice front axle for sure) and has a handmade metal body (tailcone long gone) that appears to be original 1970's green. This is a short little dude! Thanks, Kenny.
  2. I drug this one home last weekend...It is a 1956 Stevenscraft with functional exhaust pipe on the side and non functional curved glass S.W. gauges. Has a sweet little virgin stock Continental motor...
  3. Wow !! That is a nice car GoGo, I don't see many Wahlborg's with an aluminum tube front axle, but I know they came from the factory like that. Does anyone out there know the year or option differances between a 300 model with the aluminum axle and a 300 model with the I beam steel axle? Please tell me you are not going to re-paint your car !!! This is one I am going to get next weekend...
  4. I bought this little Wahlborg last Saturday about 10 minutes from my house. A local Fresno car raced from 1958 to 1964. it has a nice running AA Continental motor. The original owner was getting pretty sentimental about selling it when I was leaving his house with the car in the back of my truck. I told him.... I only live a few minutes away and he could have "visitation rights" whenever he wants and then I drove off before he changed his mind !!
  5. Ooops, I posted some pictures on the wrong thread. Anyway, here is what I have been up to... Does anyone remember the name 'Jim Nikolaus'? He must have ran A or B class. Thanks, Kenny.
  6. I'm trying to attach pictures from Fresno, Calif. 1957, but no luck! ******************** ****************** ******************* Kenny, I sent you a PM for instructions with photos. I can help you with uploads and we look forward to seeing them. -Randy TXSZ
  7. Randy (midget 85) Thank you for the nice welcome! I'm sorry about the off topic post with the Corvettes, but that is what started me into collecting. The fact is, I scrounge yard sales and local swap meets for this stuff and I always ask people if they have, or know where any cheap old racing junk is. Back in 1978, I was trying to find some parts the Corvette was missing and I saw an ad for a swap meet in Pomona Ca., my dad and I drove the 4 hours to get there and I was amazed at some of the cool stuff for sale. That jacked up my mind at an early age and gave me an appreation for automobilia, so I have slowly been buying stuff for the last 30 years. I only mentioned the prices because I don't want people to think I'm some rich guy! I am a simple tire salesman and could never afford to pay full bore for anything! I have been out of touch with this stuff for about the last 5 years because my two daughters have been racing quarter midgets (a great sport I would have never considered if I did not know about it's awesome history). They did extreamly well and our family had a wonderful time. I really reccomend it to everyone with kids. My oldest daughter (14 year old) grew out of her cars this year, so we decided to quit racing for a short time and get back into going to some car shows and swap meets again...well, they both have the hot rod vision now and we have started building their cars. We are building Shelby (14) a 1930 model A coupe on 32 rails, and Jennifer (11) has a 1929 Model A roadster that we will tackle next. Anyway..back to our topic, whenever I find an old quarter midget, I always ask if they have their helmet, jacket and any trophies or pictures and I have been given quite a few items. Here are a few things that I have set aside....
  8. Doug, I have owned the 58 Corvette since 1977 (my high school car) I paid $2,000. for it and it was my first attempt at fixing up an old car, and my dad bought the 63 coupe in 1974 for $1,150. , I bought it from him about 7 years ago, it is in the same condition as the day he bought it (needs paint) and I drive it quite often. Thanks!
  9. This is for Papa... Those are McCulloch superchargers for 24 stud Ford flathead V8's, and here are a couple pics of the V8-60 in the #14 Kurtis. The motor was built by Joe Boghosian (a Fresno legend). Thanks!
  10. Hello everyone, I have just finished reading every page of this thread and it's really awesome to see the growing interest for these little cars in Texas. I met Lon (straycat) thru another hot rod forum and I sent him some pictures of my small collection (I would have tried to take some better shots if I had known about this site!). I have been looking for vintage quarter midgets for about 15 years and at one time I had over 20, but small as they are... they still take up a lot of room, so I decided to sell of some of the ones that needed quite a bit of restoration work, such as 2 more Racecrafts, 2 Wahlborgs, an Offyette, Overholtzer, Grand Prix, Mantz, Rice roadster, Vikingcraft and several home made cars . I have a weakness for cars in "as raced" orig. condition. My current collection (above pictures) includes.. 1947 full size Kurtis midget chassis #161, the geneology of Kurtis book only traces the car back to Eli Vukovich, but I have found also earlier history, 1958 Kurtis 500, 1957 Racecraft, 1957 Wahlborg, 1956 Stevenscraft, 1961 Lenny Gonsel (pretty rare), Late 50's "mystery" car (looks like a hybred Vikingcraft) and a 1958 Racecraft (the car pictured above with the aftermarket friction shocks) This car has some great history. It was owned and raced by one of the original Mickey Mouse Club members (Johnny) and was passed down to his little brother (Monte) Walt Disney made a 8mm movie about this very car. While I'm on the subject of Walt Disney, I can tell you he was a big fan of quarter midget racing as a matter of fact... Doug Carruthers (Vikingcraft) owned a large trailer manufacturing business in Anaheim, Ca. called Viking Trailer Sales and he built one of the first quarter midget tracks in southern Calif. called the "Jelly Bean Bowl". He soon leased the entire property to Walt Disney so he could build a park called...Disneyland! Walt continued to attend local quarter midget races and at one time there was a little guy and his sister racing and Walt was so impressed with the way this little guy carried himself that he signed him to a movie contract. This kid was none other than Kurt Russell ! Southern Calif. and central Calif (where I live) was a real hot bed for 1/4 midget racing and I still stumble across vintage race cars sometimes although they are not as cheap as they were when I first started buying them. I have ton's of old photo's from the 50's and early 60's when I get a chance, I will try and post some of the better ones. As a new member to this website (just found out about it), I am really enjoying it! Thanks! Kenny.
