SILVER BAY, Minn. (January 11, 2022) — X.CELERATED (XR) announces agreement to acquire the Southern Touring Late Model Series.

The Southern Touring Late Model Series – formerly known as the Southern Texas Late Model Series – was created in 2012. XR Events will carry on the proud STLMS tradition, keeping the series races a racer- and family-friendly environment and the interaction with fans and drivers always paramount.

In assuming ownership of the Southern Touring Late Model Series, XR will work with former series personnel to conduct, produce and promote all races on the current 2022 schedule. The acquisition will reinforce XR’s commitment to regional racing heading into this season and beyond.

Each race will be broadcast live on XR’s streaming platform XR+ and be available on demand on the platform after the final checkered flag falls.

“The whole team at XR is the perfect group to continue the growth of the series and take it to the next level,” said current Southern Touring Late Model Series Director & Promoter Kody Hardage. “What XR has to offer with live and on-demand broadcasts and corporate resources, this series has the opportunity to grow to its full potential. When I took over Southern Touring Late Model Series, I had grand plans to grow it into something great. While I feel like it is a good place, this is an important step for the fans and racers to all maintain late model racing in the great state of Texas and surrounding states. As we head into 2022 with some of the largest purses the series has ever offered, I have no doubt that the XR team will take that momentum and keep building for years to come.”

The series will become a part of the XR family, joining a growing number of XR-owned and produced events/series across the country. Those include the inaugural XR Super Series for Super Late Models, the Karl Kustoms Bristol Dirt Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway (Tenn.) and the Duel in the Desert at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Nev.) among others.

“We are all-in on grassroots racing, and nothing shows it more than this,” said XR Chief Operating Officer Dan Robinson. “This series exemplifies what it means to be a local racer. It gives us another chance to promote regional heroes on a national platform with XR+ and it allows these great drivers to showcase their talent even more than they already are.”

The 2022 Southern Touring Late Model Series is scheduled to feature 10 races at nine tracks, beginning at Cotton Bowl Speedway (Texas) on March 18. The series will end this year’s campaign at Tri-State Speedway (Okla.) on Oct 1. The drivers in the series run the gamut from 30-plus-year veterans with multiple large touring series victories to the weekend racer that is out to have fun. Boyd, Texas racer, Dean Abbey, is the reigning Southern Touring Late Model Series champion and is expected to defend his title. Last season was his first year in a late model.
