rebelracewriter
Marble Falls Lakefest, 8/6-8/21 Marble Falls, TX.,(Aug 8th, 2021) After an interesting day of qualifying that saw part of the Pro classes miss out on the second round due to wind and rough, choppy water, it was time for eliminations on the 'liquid quarter mile' at Lake Marble Falls. Top qualifiers in Pro classes were Marty Logan(Top Alcohol Hydro) Daryl Ehrlich(Pro Mod), Eric Dement(Pro Outlaw), Bill Diez(Top Alcohol Flat), Tim Ortiz(Pro Jet) and Frank Carter(Pro Comp Flat). Unfortunately the wind continued to blow on Sunday. While a nice breeze feels good in mid-90s heat, it is not conducive to good, safe drag boat racing. Officials were forced to make some schedule changes getting the slower boat out first and cutting the course to 660'(1/8 mile). Naturally this put some kinks in dial-in numbers and all index numbers had to be adjusted. The Pro Mods had a small window in the weather to get round 1 in. About three-quarters through Henry Benhe had the holding rope get caught in the capsule hatch. Unknowingly, and despite the starters efforts to get it released, Behne launched, got to about the start timers and the rope grabbed, nearly turning him over. With the rope now severed, it had to restrung from bank to bank. During the delay, winds returned and the Pro Mods were unable to complete round 1. Top Alcohol Hydro--DNR Pro Mod 4.10(Round 1 partial) Mallori Carroll 4.035 @ 143.932(B.O.) Jay Hudgins 4.672 @ 109.135 W Mickey Snider 4.145 @ 142.822 W Greg Lempar 4.152 @ 144.017 Robin Reed 4.098 @ 140.097(B.O.) Daryl Ehrlich 4.146 @ 140.325 W Henry Behne N/T Tim Ortiz 4.134 @ 131.114 Lee Warren--DNR Steve Walls—DNR Terry Kain—DNR Bryan Miller--DNR Pro Outlaw--DNR Top Alcohol Flat--DNR Pro Jet--DNR Pro Comp Flats--DNR Quick Eliminator(4.40) The Quick Eliminator final paired up Robert Anderson(Huffman) against Lee Warren(Marble Falls) in Steve Prewit's boat. Warren got 3/100th on the start but broke out the top end by .033 giving the victory to Anderson in his Mutual Funds boat. **So why was Warren in Prewit's boat. In round 1 on a bye run Prewit ran it out and caught some rollers hard bouncing the boat around hurting his back. So in steps Warren. Now you'd think being in an unfamiliar boat, with the unfamiliar launch sequence and an odd index number that Warren might struggle. HA! In the semi's Warren said “Hold My Beer and Watch This”(see what I did there) cutting an .040 light then running a 4.406 pass. Robert Anderson 4.414 @ 114.006 defeats Lee Warren 4.367 @ 129.925 Pro Eliminator(4.60) It was California vs Texas in the pro Eliminator finals with Dave Lipinski(Madera, Ca.) paired up with Greg Cawyer(Orange Grove). Cawyer(Strictly Business) was 5/100 better on the start, but was 52/100th too quick on the top, breaking out giving the win to Lipinski(Hot Shot) increasing his points lead. Dave Lipinski 4.648 @ 120.303 defeats Greg Cawyer 4.548 @ 119.500 Top Eliminator(4.90) Midland's Kevin Conklin squared off with Bobby Thurman in the Top Eliminator finals. Conklin(Texas High Risk) got 6/100th advantage on the start and needed every inch at the stripe as Thurman(Crapshooter) ran quicker but loosing on a holeshot to Conklin. Kevin Conklin 5.049 @ 93.486 defeats Bobby Thurman 5.034 @ 115.210 Modified Eliminator(5.60) The Modified Eliminator finals pitted Jesse James jr.(Tyler) with Tyler Boehme(Rio Medina). James(The Outlaw) went too quick, breaking out, at the finish handing the honors the Boehme(The Slippery Pickle). Tyler Boehme 5.614 @ 95.720 defeats Jesse James jr. 5.553 @ 95.019 Stock Eliminator(Dial in) A first time was guaranteed in the Stock Eliminator finals between Seth Walls(San Angelo) and Skyler Woody(Round Rock) with the winner going for a swim.(Lakefest tradition) Perhaps nerves got the best of both as each went red at the start. Walls(Sotally Tober) was the least offender being awarded the victory over Woody(Plum Crazy). Seth Walls 6.050 @ 87.022 defeats Skyler Woody 8.973 @ 56.133 PWC(Dial in) In the Personal Water Craft finals it was experience vs youth with Lynn Blackburn going against points leader Jody Smith(Wylie). Blackburn on her Doo'n Time 2 jet ski got 2/10th on the start and ran down Smith(Lil Maniac) to grab the victory. Lynn Blackburn 71.000 @ 69.107 defeats Jody Smith 8.915 @ 53.
