Austin Wayne Self amped up about Kentucky Speedway return

SPARTA, Ky.: Still excited over the performance of his AM Racing team in their most recent race together at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway, Austin Wayne Self (@AustinWSelf) hopes to showcase the speed again in Thursday night’s Buckle Up Your Truck 225 at Kentucky Speedway.

Poised to make his fourth career NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) start at the 1.5-mile speedway, Self is eager to deliver his AM Racing team their third top-10 of the season and better his personal best at Kentucky of 14th last July.

“Even though we had a week off, I was really stoked about the speed we had in our truck at Chicagoland,” said Self. “Circumstances prevented us from having a better finish, but it was probably one of the best intermediate trucks I’ve ever had.

“Working with my crew chief Eddie (Troconis) – I feel like we both understand where we want our trucks to be and we’re going to work hard on making great progress for not only the rest of the summer but the season.”

When it comes to racing at Kentucky, Self says it has similar characteristics of Chicagoland and that should bold well for contending for his sixth career top-10.

“Kentucky Speedway is another track where the surface is worn and provides a great opportunity to race,” added Self. “It’s going to be hot this week – so the track is going to be slick and that’s going to keep the field pretty close together.

“We’ll practice during the day, qualify later in the afternoon and then race at night. The biggest thing for me and Eddie is to make sure we keep our No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet balanced.

“If its not right during Stage 1, we’ll have some time to adjust it on and then go fight hard to the checkered flag. A lot of my family is from the area, so I’ll have a lot of support on Thursday night and that’s great motivation to make Kentucky one of our best races of 2019.”

Texas Department of Agriculture’s GO TEXAN program will support Self in his 74th career start.

GO TEXAN, celebrating its 20th Birthday this year, represents Texas agri-business on state, national and international levels by building recognition with the GO TEXAN mark.
