All Star Double this Weekend for Reutzel after Setting a New Track Record

by Lonnie Wheatley

CLUTE, Texas (May 3, 2019) – Following another weekend washout, Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team try to get the All Star Circuit of Champions title chase back under way with a pair of events this weekend.

The weekend double gets under way in Western Pennsylvania at Lernerville Speedway on Friday night before shifting just across the border to Hartford, Ohio’s Sharon Speedway on Saturday night.

Reutzel visited both tracks for the first time during last year’s championship campaign and reached victory lane in both first visits.

“We won at Lernerville and we also won at Sharon the first time and were horrible the next two times we went there,” Reutzel recalls.  “We just have to get back to what we did the first time at Sharon and we can have a good weekend.”

While last weekend’s pair of All Star events in Ohio fell victim to weather, Reutzel and the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X team got in part of Sunday’s World of Outlaws event at Illinois’ Jacksonville Speedway before Mother Nature stepped in once again.

And they made the most of the short night with Reutzel setting a new track record of 10.028 seconds in qualifying over a field of 42 before winning his heat race as well aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment machine.

After making a last-lap move past Donny Schatz to snare fourth in the Dash, Reutzel was poised to grid the feature outside the second row aboard the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions machine before rain brought an early end to the night.  A makeup date for the feature event has not yet been announced.

“We made the right adjustments for qualifying after hot laps, we knew we had to run the curb hard,” Reutzel explains.  “It was slick by the time we ran the Dash, so we tightened up.  I was pumped for the ‘A’, I wish we would have had a chance to get that in.”

With rain the common denominator over the past several weekends, Reutzel and the BRM No. 87 look to get the All Star Circuit of Champions title pursuit into high gear with this weekend’s pair of events.

2019 Quick Stats:  20 races, 1 win, 6 top-fives, 11 top-tens.
