Mike Harmon Crash 2002

Recommended Posts

Johnny Sauter and Mike Harmon in a devastating yet non-lethal crash in the NASCAR Busch Series practice run. Bristol Motor Speedway in August 2002. Harmon was practicing in his #44 car fr GIC-Mixon Motorsports, when he crashed into the track's infield entry gate in Turn 2. Harmon's car then impacted the end of the concrete wall head-on. The impact was so violent that the car literally split in half. The remnants of the vehicle were then struck by the car of Johnny Sauter.

The Lord smiled upon Mike that day.....looking at various angles, when Sauter rolled through his car (at full speed) Mikes head was about

2 feet (or less) to the right. Can't believe how he just got up from the seat and walked away unscathed.

Winner of the inaugural All Pro race in San Antonio in 1983, a lot of Late Model wins, this wreck, and still racing 36 years later, even if it is for a 35th place finish or worse most races.     Not too many from the starting lineup  that incredible night still racing.     Got to hand it to him.

Do you remember when Michael Waltrip wrecked in the same spot? Tore his car in half as well.

Yes I remember it....happened in 1990 in the same spots and with the same result except no one ran into him and did further damages,

Here is the clip of that one. BTW, this car is in the Talladega museum
