All Star Title Chase Continues for Reutzel after Rallying for Night Before the 50 Top Ten

by Lonnie Wheatley

CLUTE, Texas (September 14, 2018) – Just four nights of competition remain for Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team in the All Star Circuit of Champions title pursuit.

And half of those take place this weekend with a pair of events beginning with Friday night’s card at Dundee, New York’s Outlaw Speedway and then a return to central Pennsylvania at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night.

It will mark Reutzel’s second stop at Outlaw Speedway after driving the Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X to a fourth-place finish in June while Saturday is his first visit to the Selinsgrove oval.

Reutzel carries an 18-point lead in All Star points into the weekend after salvaging a ninth-place finish in last Friday’s Night Before the 50 event at Port Royal Speedway.  Saturday’s $51,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 was postponed to October 27 by rain and will now carry World of Outlaws sanction.

Friday’s “Night Before the 50” started in strong fashion with Reutzel timing third-quickest overall aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry before winning his heat race from the front row outside starting position.

The night took a turn for the worse in the Dash.

“We didn’t even make it to turn one,” Reutzel said after a front-row starter triggered a multi-car crash going into the first corner that resulted in extensive damage to the BRM No. 87.

Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions crew persevered though, bringing down a backup car and starting the feature at the tail.

Reutzel rallied from the 23rd position to capture a solid ninth-place finish on the night to maintain the series points lead.

“It wasn’t a good situation, but we made the most of it and came back through the field,” Reutzel commented.

Reutzel will ty to add to his ten wins on the season already with this weekend’s pair of events in New York and Pennsylvania.

2018 Quick Stats:  64 races, 10 wins, 25 top-fives, 37 top-tens.

Next Up:  All Star Circuit of Champions at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY, on Friday and Selinsgrove (PA) Speedway on Saturday.
