While Wade did come on a second, he drove the hell out it. Car that won sure didn't look like a street stock(not saying he didn't meet rule), but he did win. Question remains though, would he have won if he started 3 rows back and Wade on point? Great race! Well worth the wait.

Wade Jones drove a nice race, overcoming 2 cars in the feature that out qualified him in the heat race. Wade Jones had his opportunity to qualify up front just like Mike Trigg. It was the track's decision to start the heat races based on accumulated points. Because Trigg ran the opening race at I-37 (when he hit the front wall) he had points. Unfortunately that contact with wall on opening night did severe damage to Trigg's chassis, steering, and transmission...so he was unable to return to I-37 unitl last night. Trigg has been running that same chassis/body since he began racing the STP series a few years ago...and yes it conforms to every set of a Street Stock rules in South Texas. Homemade bodies are allowed, and it is "badged" with full compliment of Cadillac emblems, grill, script, etc...meant to resemble a Cadillac CTS-V station wagon. Every driver/car builder has the opportunity to work within the rules in the manner they see fit. Trigg chose to go with a body he could easy repair, using large flat panels which could be easily be made from aluminum sheets and minimal tools. There are several other modern street stocks at I-37 employing the same concept. If you are affiliated with a street stock, and see this as an advantage...you can do the SAME thing. I agree 100% that the Street Stock cars look drastically different. All I can say is it is a person choice on what type of body to run, because these types of bodies have been legal for years!

Regarding the feature. There was a final restart after a caution on lap 14. Jones was directly behind Trigg on the restart. Jones ran second to Trigg for the final 6 laps...falling further and further behind every lap. Once Trigg found a groove on the top side, no one had anything for him last night. He won by about half a straight. Give the man some credit! He has raced about every class of circle track car there is over the last 35 years...and winning. He's knows what he is doing.

I didn't not once say it was illegal, just said it didn't look like the rest. Like it was a hybrid. Lol. I did see the same thing. He did a hell of a job. He was definitely hooked up. Car was mad fast. I didn't d not mean to take anything away from Trigg. He WON! Congrats to him. The way that car was hooked up, he probably could have started tail end. Understand all the rules. Obviously if it didn't fit the rules he wouldn't have been out there. I have also seen some of these new super street stocks that look offset. Just think keeping the cars looking like street cars makes it easier for fans to relate and know makes and models. If it hadn't have been for the Cadillac CTS on the nose, no one there could say it looked like a Cadillac. That is all I am saying. I'm sorry if that offended anyone, especially Trigg. He is a great driver and a great car builder. Proof is in the pudding. Just like his sticker you could see in the back for all the nosey *^%#*%^. Loved it. Great job Trigg. I look forward to seeing more of that Caddy.

I disagree. I was never behind trigg 1and2 on any restart. The last four laps whe I reached 2 my lap times were faster. Thanks to my aunt Robbie for timing every race and stating facts.

Slide job you failed to see that Mike took the lead after door slamming a car in front of him when that car passed him cleanly, he did the same thing to another car in Goliad that's the only reason he passed that car in Goliad the car he door slammed Saturday nite passed him cleanly, if he could pass cleanly more power to him. He is a good driver and he has a fast car and I agree with Wade, Wade never restarted behind him in second place.

I shall take this opportunity to offer some past history about Mike Trigg.He has been running and WINNING stock cars since 17 years old, Qualified and ran With NASCAR West stars at 18 been

in top 100 drivers in state of Texas. Likely has more competitive laps than any 3 of the drivers he runs with, loves the sport of racing, He has went out of his way to make sure that his car meets every aspect of the rule for the class. He has had more major South Texas races taken from him because of petty rule infractions than I care to recall. There isn't any stipulations on past driving experience if so it would narrow the competitors significantly. Todays stock car class is not an entry level class.

If two very competitive cars come together door to door this is DIRT TRACK RACING. This sport is not now or has it been in the past a non contact sport. Mike is racing with a smaller engine than most, that has not been out of the frame in over 5 years he wins with handling and driving.

I saw the pass on Cody. Trigg got a hell of run down the back straight, the two cars entred turn three even, with Trigg having more speed. I feel when Cody saw Trigg he changed his entry to turn 3 (lower than previous laps) trying to protect his spot. So, he was at least a lane lower in the middle of 3 than he had been. That was a smart, understandable move. However, with the slick track conditions, Cody probably also knew Trigg was not going to be able to hold the car that low. At that point, contact was pretty much a given. In my opinion, the contact was very incidental. No one got out of shape, and barely any wrinkle sheep metal. Both cars lost a little momentum, that was all. It was a racing deal. As someone earlier said, there will always be contact in racing. That is why the cars have nerf bars. It is expected to happen!

Thanks to I-37 for making their racing program so exciting. If there is a rivalry brewing between Mr. Trigg and Mr. Jones, that's sure to bring more and more fans to the track and I call it a good thing.

 

What is NOT a good thing is folks getting on here and bashing either one or the other of the drivers. If you love or hate one or the other, that's just fine, but I insist that we keep things as positive as possible in the Lone Star Speedzone forums. This is NOT Facebook where anything seems to be acceptable.

Slidejob...trigg was pole outside I was 3rd inside and got a good run off the bottom in the first race. Trying to pass trigg I get he pinched me off and I let him know it..he got me back coming out of two after that..good hard clean fun racing

I would be the first to say Wade Jones has a remarkable record in his own right. He is extremely consistent, has a very tough and reliable car, and is always a threat to win! But I can promise you he has wrinkled a LOT o sheet metal on the way to front. He is popular with the fans because he wins. People like a winner...and tend to turn s blind eye.

On the other hand, Trigg runs a very limited schedule. Mainly chasing the larger purse races. Because of the this he really doesn't have a "home track". So, every time he shows up he is considered an "outsider". The fans, and the bulk of the home track driver don't cut him any slack. This is Trigg's world. He is the "man in black" everywhere he shows up.

On the other side, Trigg is one of the nicest racers you would ever hope to meet. He has helped many racers and many competitors through the years. When he raced weekly and had a home track, he enjoyed the fan participation, and especially like to put smile on any kids face by letting sit in race car, or take time to talk to them. I promise you he doesn't wear the "bad guy" stereo type with ease. Unfortunately, perception is reality...and for now he is the "outsider". But, I-37 Speedway would be his local track. Who knows, maybe he will start running more regularly at I-37. That would be cool with me!

the track puts a bounty out to get people to come try and beat jones and then someone does and everyone's mad and crying, hell we wanted to come give it a shot but lost an engine three races ago and just are getting it back. congrats to Trigg on the win and congrats to Jones on his streak he's always a class act and tuff guy to beat.

OK, I have edited some posts that turned accusations back and forth... I will continue to delete or edit those posts that seem to be carrying on personal crusades.

 

This one fact is true: Only the drivers involved actually KNOW what happens out there. The rest of us are simply trying to prove some point or other. Let the drivers sort it out in private or on the track...

I'm not trying to piss anyone off. I have stayed consistent by stating that "contact" is part of the sport. I have also stated you have great record, and win a lot of races. I try to be to give credit where due. I understanding passing cars on a dirt track is not easy, even when you are much faster. Therefore I realize "moving" a guy that is holding you up sometimes becomes necessary. Again, it is part of the sport.

FYI. I am a driver. My work schedule has prevented me being able to race for the foreseen future, but I will be there soon enough.

 

Fact 1. Stated it would be fun to see roles reversed and see if the same outcome.

Fact 2. Stated Trigg did a great job and won fairly by the rules.

Fact 3. Credit is given without strings attached.

Both Wade and Mike are excellent drivers and definitely two of the best in Street Stocks. Think Mike has gone through his share of "looks different" comments and even worked a race his car was intensely inspected and only thing wrong was a grey area suspension rule he changed voluntarily and can still be a threat to win when he pulls in the gate. I know the op did not call him a cheater and just made a statement on his car's appearance, nothing more, but I'm sure Wade likes a challenge too and they both put on several, clean battles while I worked with STP, STSSS, and local tracks and from the years of spectating. What is impressive is I37 has maintained a high car count in a class that struggles at other tracks. It's a good thing to have those two racers call I37 home.

What in the world. I win a car race in a street stock at I37 in Pleasanton,TX and it is as bad as Trump becoming president if you were a liberal.

 

I had a lot of fun Saturday, hope the fans enjoyed the races and hope we did our part in putting on a show. There are a lot of fast cars in South Texas and I'm happy that I have one of them.

 

I have great respect for Wade Jones and what he has accomplished and continues to accomplish. I think Wade and I both understand why we are at the track and we both know that if we are going to win, we have to deal with each other at some point during the night. We race each other hard because we both want to win. I have been racing a little while and I try to look each night as a new opportunity to win and improve. Wade and I are good, you guys need to just let us race and quit worrying about what we think or what we did in the cars. I am good with a rivalry, it makes it fun. I know this fact, I worked my butt off to get my car competitive with his car. They continue to adjust and get faster too.

 

The only reason I have a street stock today is because of the level of competition in South Texas when I moved down here was top notch. I thrive on competition and making my car faster. I don't race to come in second, if I ever start liking getting outrun, then I will know my racing days are done.

 

I ask everyone to have fun with this. There is more damage done to our sport daily by social media than anyone realizes. This is sport of passion, lazy people usually don't succeed in racing. If you're a racer, get off the keyboard and go spend that time on your car to get faster. If your a fan, go support your favorite driver and track and if you use social media, please be positive. If you are someone hiding behind a screen name just trying to stir up crap, then just go away, you offer nothing that will benefit a racer, a track or the sport we love. People that don't have racecars or who have never been involved in a racetrack have no idea the effort and money required to make this happen on a Saturday night. Look at the tracks that are no longer racing in South Texas alone. There is a real problem, you can be part of the solution or part of the problem.

 

It wasn't long ago that I37 was a delapidating racetrack. Thank you to Ray, Mike and George for bringing it back to life and giving racers a place to race and enjoy. Hope to return soon.

Well said Mr. Trigg, I always enjoyed watching both of you. Haven't made too many races this year but know you and Wade are among the top drivers and there are many more that can beat either of you on any given night. Good competition in the Street Stock class, wish more would show up down here. Always had fun with STSSS/STP events.
