Been to a few around Austin, S.A., DFW, Houston. Didn't see Oak Hill Downs or Austin Speedway mentioned. Meyer Spdwy. Houston, Pam American (original one),

Pikes Peak Hill Climb (as they called it) in Colorado. Also, in Austin once each year in the 60s into the 70's they held the Austin Aqua Festival. As part of that they would set up a street track. The main strait ran on Riverside drive from around S. 1st street down to just past the railroad tressel then do a hair pen back for a couple of blocks, then back behind the old coliseum and Palmer Auditorium parking lot, then back to Riverside. Those were sports car races. It was a pretty big deal they put on each year with lots of cars from all over and lots of classes, as they do in sports cars. You could watch many original Shelby 427 Cobras flying past, as you sat in your lawn chair along Riverside Drive.

Ah the old Austin Aqua Festival man that's some good memories there. Dad even told me how they would have drag boat races on Town Lake (Lady Bird Lake). They would start right by the bridge on 35 and go east. The top fuel boats would launch water up on to 35 when they took off. Then some people loving residents of east Austin complained and they shut the drag boat races down for a while. They tried to resurrect them again out at Decker Lake but more often then not they would have to stop the races because of wind.

Didn't some of the TIDA and local racers run in the Aqua Festival races?

Yeah, Josh, I went to most of those on "Town Lake" as they called it then. You can see some of it on youtube. I couldn't get the link to work on here. It eventually became such a divisive cultural clash in Austin, the races were shut down by vote of the city council.

Josh42: You asked, "Didn't some of the TIDA and local racers run in the Aqua Festival races?"

YES ... As part of the Austin Aqua Festival, the River City Road Races were conducted. When the event was held, several TIDA-LM Series drivers and many Texas Pro Sedan drivers participated. Both had road racing experience at Texas World Speedway in the TROC and in Monterrey Mexico 24 Hour Race for 4 cylinder cars.

I raced in the Austin event several times. The 1 1/2 mile course used about a half mile of Riverside Drive, turned left just prior to the railroad underpass, ran through several parking lots and around what I recall known as the Convention Center or Auditorium.

It was quite a road racing experience. I am glad that I participated and placed well each year.

would love to see that one make a return! Neil I said on our radio show last month all of these people going crazy about the "Roval" at Charlotte are way behind on the times. You all did that at TWS before most of these people were born! What events those were!

New life for Irwindale Speedway. Looks like it will be open for at least 2 more seasons.  Just in case any of you want to travel west and add it to your list!
