Josh wins!

But I've been to a few that not too many around here know about...

- Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. 1/3-mile NASCAR-sanctioned asphalt oval in Scarborough, Maine, that has been in continuous operation since 1949. Runs events three nights a week.

- Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford, Maine. 3/8-mile asphalt track that hosts one of the richest races in the nation annually, the Oxford 250 (or 100, depending on the year). Been running since 1950.

- Speedway 95 in Herman, Maine. 1/3-mile asphalt track established in 1966. Still going strong in the Bangor area. They also have racing on Wednesday nights in addition to Saturday night.

- Wiscasset Raceway in Wiscasset, Maine. 3/8-mile asphalt track built in 1968 and still going strong

- Unity Raceway, Unity, Maine. 1/3-mile asphalt track, soon to become Maine's only dirt track. Unity Raceway became Maine’s first speedway when it opened as a dirt track in 1948 utilizing an existing horse racing track. It remained a dirt track until the end of the 1964 season when it was paved in its present configuration. About half of the grandstands are covered, a holdover from the horse racing days. A very unique track with an interesting history.

- And how about Graham Lake Speedway in Ellsworth Falls, Maine? 1/2-mile dirt track that operated in the 1950's into the 1960's. Today, the former track is used as a cranberry bog. I got hooked on racing at that track back in the 50s as a high school kid. Drove a couple of races in an old jalopy that look pretty much like this one...

Here is my list. What's fascinating about these types of threads is the variety of tracks people have been to, and how people from different regions have a track in common that is nowhere near where they are from.

I only include tracks where I've actually seen races, and only count a track once no matter what the surface. For example, I went to Flemington and Nazareth National when they were dirt and paved. Some trackchasers would count that as four different tracks. I disagree with that point of view and only count each track once.

I also don't count temporary courses set up in a parking lot (like they did 1/4 to 3/4 Midgets in the NYSF Parking lot during Super Dirt Week.

Paposse watermelon is in Cordele, Ga. Atleast thats what they called it back in 02-03. Fuji had the Gt3 cars there i believe have to look again. Australia had the sprints and bomber type cars.

Now that you say that, I remember hearing of that track before. Thanks.

I would love to see the Sprints in Australia one year. Probably a pipe dream.

  • 2 weeks later...

I see most of the tracks you have listed are dirt tracks, What class are you primarily going to see or are you just going ??

I have been to all the dirt tracks in the Houston and surrounding areas and the same for the Dallas Ft Worth area. I like any thing on dirt but primarily follow the WoO's, ASCS Nats and Gulf South region.

Well in South Texas Sportmods are King with Pure Stocks right on their heals in terms of good racing. South Texas Speedway top three classes would be Pure Stocks and Sportmods being pretty equal and E-Mods. Texana runs Sportmods, Pure Stock ,Street Stock and Modlites. I-37 runs Mods , Sportmods, Street Stock,Limited Late Model. Pure Stock and Sport Compact with good car counts in all.
